A brand new knitted postbox topper and poppy wreath made by the famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ are among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Also returning to the St Peter’s Church railings in front of the War Memorial is the giant poppy, comprising over a hundred individual poppies, which was crafted last year by both members of the Yarn Ninjas and Ruddington Women’s Institute. The pillar box ‘topper’ outside the Co-op on Church Street is new…

Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) explains: “Representatives from our twin town of Grenay, France, will also be attending. The service will include prayers, hymns and the laying…
Read MoreMoving the Goalposts!
During the summer we reported on an unpopular decision by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to remove the netting from one of the goalposts in Sellors’ Recreation Ground to discourage people from using it. It’s after some new ‘Fairham Green’ residents, who’d recently moved into the houses built just behind it, complained to custodians RPC that stray balls from young people playing football there were hitting their cars and windows. Before any serious damage was caused, it was decided to take away the net at that end of the pitch temporarily, until a solution could be found. Its…

In the past few years, as well as inside various village premises and on standby for public events, Ruddington has seen the installation of several, potentially life-saving yellow and green boxes which are available to our community 24 hours a day. There are now seven publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at locations around our village, as indicated below on the updated map originally drawn up Barbara Breakwell and James Norton. In the case of a cardiac emergency, where someone’s heart stops beating, or begins beating erratically, these can be used by people…
Read MoreFurther Funding in Paradise
A group that runs a Ruddington allotment has secured more vital cash to support its gardening space which aids residents’ health and mental wellbeing. The Rushcliffe Social Prescribing Group co-ordinates a plot at the ‘Paradise Gardens’ allotments, off Wilford Road, and has received the grant from Rushcliffe Borough Council’s ‘Reach Rushcliffe Fund’. It builds on the group first getting funding in 2021 with the money helping to purchase essentials and making the site accessible. It’s provided an additional pathway for patients of social prescribing to access this space, leading to excellent attendance over the…

If you’ve walked, cycled or driven past The Green in the last couple of days, you’ll almost certainly have noticed the metal security fencing and scaffolding just erected at Ruddington’s former Youth & Community (‘Young People’s) Centre. Originally owned and maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) it has lain empty and disused since December 2016, with the main building having to be boarded up in 2018 following repeated acts of vandalism. In December 2019 Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) announced it had purchased the facility from NCC to refurbish it and put it back into use…
Read MoreGoal Net Removed Following New Residents’ Complaints
Campaigners who fought to save a Ruddington playing field for future generations are dumbfounded by a decision to remove the netting from one of the goalposts to discourage people from using it. It’s after some new ‘Fairham Green’ residents, who’ve recently moved into the new houses just behind Sellors’ Recreation Ground, allegedly complained to Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) that young people playing football there (as they have been for around eighty years) is a nuisance. Villager Rebecca Collison, who campaigned successfully as part of Ruddington Community Association (RCA) not to include the…

The now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ have created lots of brand new pieces to adorn the village centre, as well as an update to last year’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee church railings ‘royal balcony’ tapestry to reflect the key Royal players this time around. Chief…
