A brand new knitted postbox topper and poppy wreath made by the famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ are among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Also returning to the St Peter’s Church railings in front of the War Memorial is the giant poppy, comprising over a hundred individual poppies, which was crafted last year by both members of the Yarn Ninjas and Ruddington Women’s Institute. A new poppy display by the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ is among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country. Adorning the railings in front of St Peter’s Church, near the War Memorial, the Ninjas have had a little extra help creating this one. As Ruddington prepares for the annual Royal British Legion Parade and Service of Remembrance at our War Memorial, on Sunday 13th November 2022, the Ruddington and District Branch has a new Chairman. Ruddington’s Remembrance Services Return

After being cancelled due to the Coronavirus in 2020, ‘physical’ Remembrance commemorations are being held again in Ruddington this year. The first one is, of course, this Thursday, November 11th, for ‘Armistice Day’ – with a Service of Remembrance inside St Peter’s Church, starting at 10am, to which everyone is welcome. The congregation will be invited to head out to the War Memorial on Church Street at eleven o’clock for the two minute silence, led by members of the Ruddington & District Branch of the Royal British Legion. Ruddington Remembers 100 Years On

This morning, at Ruddington’s War Memorial, hundreds of villagers gathered in the sunshine on the date and time exactly a century ago that the signing of the Armistice marked the official end of the First World War. This Centenary was an especially poignant time to remember the sixty one servicemen from our own village, who fought for their country between 1914 and 1918, but who never returned home to their families. Sunday November 11th 2018 commemorates 100 years since the end of World War One. To commemorate this, Ruddington Royal British Legion is running “The Poppy Challenge.” Branch Secretary Louise Mote explains: “We’re inviting everyone to join in the fun, whilst raising much-needed funds for the annual Poppy Appeal. The Poppy Challenge invites you to submit as many entries as you like in any of the three categories: painting, drawing and baking.
