The wheels are now in motion for a Grade 2 listing building here in Ruddington to begin a new chapter in its history – after planning permission for a ‘special school’ there was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Plans to erect a contemporary, new home in Ruddington’s conservation area, right alongside The Green, have been rejected by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). The application [22/00485/FUL] by Building Design (Nottm) Ltd would have seen the demolition of the garage belonging to 6, The Green (‘The White House’) to make way for a modern two storey house (plus attic room) to be built ‘next door’ over the current garden – filling the “gap” seen in the photograph above. The impressive result of months of planning and knitting was revealed today – as Ruddington prepares to celebrate the long Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend in style. The finished, knitted banner was hoisted up outside The Framework Knitters’ Museum on Chapel Street this lunchtime (Friday 27th May), watched by onlookers – some of whom are actually featured within the stitching of the giant artwork created by textile artist Marie Jones! Platinum Jubilee Yarn Bomb!

Eagle-eyed Ruddingtonians will already have spotted the appearance of some new, knitted creations around our village – courtesy of the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’. Following a similar ‘Yarn Bomb’ at Christmas, and one or two changing pillar box toppers outside the Co-op before and after that, marking topical events, the ‘Ninjas’ have been very busy getting ready to celebrate the long Queen’s ‘Platinum Jubilee’ weekend next month. A provisional programme of events has been revealed for Ruddington’s celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen’s seventy years on the throne this summer. Further Cycle Racks for Ruddington

Parking provision for those who visit our village centre by bicycle is set to be improved further by the addition of three more pairs of cycle racks on High Street and Church Street. It follows Ruddington Parish Council‘s installation of two pairs of cycle racks on The Green in January as part of the Ruddington Village Centre Partnership ‘Traders’ Village Improvement Plan’. No Traffic Lights for our Village Centre

Ruddington residents and village Councillors are expressing dismay that one of the key planning conditions for the approval of 175 houses down Asher Lane has now been abandoned by Rushcliffe Borough Council without a clear alternative.
