What’s Happening at Dutton’s Hill?

There’s been welcome relief for long-suffering Ruddington drivers and bus passengers this week after the imposition of temporary traffic lights at a notorious traffic bottleneck was postponed. As RUDDINGTON.info previously reported, following a number of gas leaks in recent years, Cadent Gas needs to carry out substantial maintenance on Wilford Road to replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ (pictured top) with a “more durable” plastic pipe. This was due to happen between 16th October and 13th November 2023, therefore would have been going on at the same time as junction layout improvements…

Parents who’d like help applying for their child’s Infant or Secondary School place next year are being invited along to a special event this week – which is the first of its kind in Ruddington. The ‘School Admissions Evening’ will offer information and advice specifically tailored to help Ruddington residents who need to apply for a place in September 2024 and has been organised by village mums Katie Santana and Jen Walker.  It’s happening this Wednesday night at Ruddington Village Hall. “Unfortunately, over the last few years, too many Ruddington families have run into difficulties when…

Council Says Sorry for Traffic Delays & Disruption

The authority responsible for the major crossroads improvement work in Ruddington, which is set to continue into next year, is apologising to drivers who have complained about the unacceptable hold-ups caused by the current 4-way temporary traffic lights there. Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) says it’s sorry to hear about those experiencing significant disruption and delay due to the roadworks currently taking place at the junction of the A60 Loughborough Road, Kirk Lane and Flawforth Lane. These works, to add extra turning lanes there, started in July, and have been causing peak time problems…

£1.18 Million for James Peacock School!

It’s been announced over a million pounds will be spent on improvements to Ruddington’s Infant & Nursery School. £1.18 million of funding will be given to upgrade the building infrastructure, replace its flat roof covering and insulation, and improve the environmental performance of James Peacock School in Manor Park – much of which dates from 1967. It’s a significant portion of the latest programme of school infrastructure expenditure on twenty of the county’s primary and infant schools which has just been unveiled by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). Worth a total of £9.2m,…

What’s Happening with the Old Youth Centre?

If you’ve walked, cycled or driven past The Green in the last couple of days, you’ll almost certainly have noticed the metal security fencing and scaffolding just erected at Ruddington’s former Youth & Community (‘Young People’s) Centre. Originally owned and maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) it has lain empty and disused since December 2016, with the main building having to be boarded up in 2018 following repeated acts of vandalism. In December 2019 Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) announced it had purchased the facility from NCC to refurbish it and put it back into use…

It’s ‘Diamond Day’ for Ruddington Library

Staff at our village library are inviting residents and other users to mark a special milestone with them this week – the 60th anniversary of its opening. Although never the prettiest building in Ruddington’s ‘Conservation Area’, the Church Street lending library has been serving bookworms and the wider community here since July 1963 – and most of us have become oblivious to its uninspired and dated appearance by now. It’s ironic, perhaps, that it’s ‘Inspire‘ which runs our library these days, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council! In fairness, Ruddington Library…

‘Offer Day’ Dismay For New Ruddington Families

Just over a week ago it was National Secondary School ‘Offer Day’ – when the parents and guardians of all current Year 6 children in Ruddington were informed by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) whether (or not) they had been successful in getting their son or daughter a place at their first choice secondary school. It brought good news for our longer term village residents whose children are pupils in their final year at St Peter’s Junior School and had applied to go to Rushcliffe Spencer Academy (formerly Rushcliffe School) – Ruddington’s usual ‘feeder…

No Council Tax Rise for Most Residents

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has announced today the majority of householders here in Ruddington and elsewhere should see no increase in its share of our Council Tax for the twelve months from this April. However, this freeze is still subject to a Full Council vote. In a move which RBC says further reflects the ongoing ‘cost-of-living crisis’, it’s proposed that properties in bands A to D would see no increase at all. On February 14th the Cabinet will also discuss proposals to discount Council Tax bills for those in bands A…

Shine a Light!

As the darker nights return, drivers and pedestrians in Ruddington may be pleased to hear that long-awaited work to replace a missing lighting column in our village centre is scheduled for this weekend. It’s around a year since an electrical fault in the base of the street light at the corner of High Street and Charles Street caused it to rather dramatically burst into flames and then slowly ‘wilt’ to the floor. The top of the burnt out column was subsequently cut off, and the remaining stump covered up on…

Ruddington School Head Resigns

After last week’s disappointing Ofsted results, and uncertainty about the current situation regarding James Peacock Infant and Nursery School’s longstanding Headteacher, Richard Waldron, it’s been revealed he has now left the school. Mr Waldron had been away from his post since October 2021 due to ill health – with Hannah Cutts becoming Acting Head in his absence. Chair of Governors, Charles Raynor, has sent a letter today to update parents on the staffing there – particularly within the school’s “leadership team”.  He reveals: “Due to the impact of this (absence) he…
