TODAY (Friday 31st March 2023) was the extended deadline by which tree planting must be registered to be included in ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ (QGC) as a legacy to Her Majesty. Ruddington has seen numerous local companies, groups and individuals get involved with this national initiative. The latest to be revealed is at our Country Park, where The Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park planted 10 mature trees, including Hornbeam, Silver Birch and Crab Apple to replace trees affected by ‘Ash Dieback’ (top photo). These were funded by Ridge Clean Energy – the company which is hoping…

Where’s Ruddington’s Royal Oak Gone!?
So many concerned villagers have been contacting RUDDINGTON.info over the past fortnight, asking this question, we thought we’d better publish a quick update for you. As previously reported, Ruddington’s new ‘Royal Oak’ tree was kindly donated by villager Barbara Breakwell for Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) to plant on The Green during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. There was fanfare, ceremony and much interest as Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards was invited to do the tree planting on June Village Market day – alongside an attractive, stone-mounted plaque, already in situ. However, shortly…

A Royal Oak Tree, which has been growing in the garden of a former Ruddington Parish Councillor for a decade, has now taken pride of place on our village green; whilst one of Ruddington’s biggest employers has added a new Hornbeam Tree in its grounds at Ruddington Hall. These new trees (pictured above) are just the latest additions to ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ in Ruddington to celebrate Her Majesty’s seventy years on the throne – with the former being planted by MP for Rushcliffe Ruth Edwards during the ‘Platinum Jubilee…

A village-based business has secured £300,000 to completely replace its existing heating system – which should reduce its carbon emissions in Ruddington by around 150 tonnes a year. Artex Limited will use the funds to install a much greener ‘biomass’ heating system at its Pasture Lane site. Parent company Saint-Gobain has awarded the money as part of its ‘INVEST Carbon’ fund – to support the decarbonisation of its businesses on a journey to net zero carbon by 2050. The INVEST Carbon fund is one of two carbon funds available to businesses and employees to…

Did you know Ruddington Parish Council has a new ‘Tree Planting Working Group’? It’s been formed to improve biodiversity and create spaces for nature within our village. Long before the announcement earlier this month about ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ to mark her Platinum Jubilee, Councillors Graham Fletcher, Holly Law, Leo Lanzoni, Ken Piggott and Chloe Lewington had already decided to put their efforts into making Ruddington a more attractive place to live and work – although most of their own activities are limited to Parish Council land or property. Recently,…
