If you’re keen to do your bit for our planet, you may be interested to know that Ruddington has launched its very own ‘Plastic Free Communities’ initiative – in partnership with ‘Surfers Against Sewage’. The marine conservation charity is joining forces with a network of communities across the UK to tackle throw-away plastic. To kickstart the initiative here, you’re invited to take part in a ‘community litter pick’ this Saturday (9th October) organised by Alex Preston, the co-owner of village eco-shop The Bottle Top. Outlets in Ruddington are being encouraged to join a new scheme enabling the public to refill their reusable water bottles here free of charge – and so reduce single-use plastics. Rushcliffe Borough Council says it’s looking for environmentally minded groups or individuals to join “Refill Rushcliffe” – for the benefit of both village residents and the many visitors who flock to Ruddington. The authority is exploring the award winning ‘City to Sea’ scheme – where businesses and community venues can act as a filling up point for thirsty passers-by signposted by stickers…
