Ruddington Recyclers Beware

Villagers who use Ruddington’s closest household waste recycling centre in West Bridgford are being warned that, from the start of next month, we won’t be able just to turn up there! That’s because Nottinghamshire County Council is introducing a new, trial, online booking system for residents needing to visit the Rugby Road facility, which will begin on September 1st 2020. Councillor Phil Rostance, Vice Chairman of the Communities and Place Committee at the County Council, explains: “When we reopened the site back in June we implemented temporary traffic management arrangements to…

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…

Honey, I’m Home!

If you enjoy combing Ruddington’s charity shops for bargains, your prayers are answered – because the usual buzz has just returned to one of them. And the volunteers say it’s good to bee back. (That’s it. We’re done now! – Ed) The Honeycomb is the first of the three fundraising shops in our village to re-open after an extended closure due to the Coronavirus, (which, of course, shut all our non-essential retailers for almost two months during the ‘lockdown’). The Church Street shop – which raises money for those who are…

Christmas Market Cancelled

It’s been announced that Ruddington’s 2020 Christmas Market and Fayre has had to be called off due to continuing concerns about COVID-19. Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) took over the responsibility of organising our village’s biggest, annual, festive event from Ruddington Parish Council earlier this year – and had ambitious new plans to host gazebo stalls and street foods all along Church Street and High Street, along with further food, drink and makers stalls at multiple indoor venues around the village centre. However, despite an easing of government restrictions, it…

Heritage Centre Reopens – But Without Trains

Directors at Great Central Railway (Nottingham) have announced that no vintage steam or diesel trains will be running from Ruddington until Easter 2021 at the earliest. Passenger services last ran from our heritage site during the February half-term before all trains were cancelled and the centre closed to visitors due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. The charity reveals that, over the last couple of months, The Office of Road & Rail and The Heritage Railways Association have been working with heritage railway groups up and down the country to determine ways…

New Bus Routes Into the City

Ruddington bus passengers catching Nottingham City Transport (NCT) Navy 3 and Green 10 services to and from the City Centre will find a permanent change to both their routes and bus stops from this week. The redevelopment of the Broadmarsh area in Nottingham has reached the next stage – which on August 9th sees the permanent closure of Collin Street to all vehicles. The new traffic scheme is still going ahead despite retail company Intu going into administration recently, leaving the half-demolished Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in ‘limbo’ at the heart…

Be Considerate This Summer

For many Ruddington children, the arrival of the summer school ‘holidays’ this year has been rather less of an occasion – with the majority not having attended classes since March 20th anyway, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. However, kids with too much time on their hands during hot weather – with home schooling on pause and with even less things to do than usual due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions – can lead to trouble. This has prompted an appeal from Rushcliffe’s Police Inspector Craig Berry to show consideration for others over…
