Welcome To Wilbur Chase!
Just when you thought our globally celebrated village pussycat couldn’t possibly receive any more accolades, the company behind a major Ruddington property development has named its new £60m housing estate after him! Following Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s granting of planning permission 18/00300/OUT last week for Avant Homes (Midlands) to build 175 dwellings on the 15.89 acre site south off Musters Road, the Nottingham based developer has announced it will be called ‘Wilbur Chase’! This is, of course, in homage to ‘Wilbur – King of Ruddington’, our unwittingly world famous feline, who left his owner’s home…
Wilbur’s Tenth Birthday in Pictures
Ruddington residents and other Wilbur fans from further afield turned out in force at the Frame Breakers’ pub tonight to celebrate our favourite feline’s tenth birthday! Here are some of our photos of the event… …predictably with no appearance whatsoever from its elusive star. Despite this, everyone seemed to have a great time – and the sun shone down! If you have more pictures of our village cat’s special celebration you’d like to share with us, please post them to the Ruddington Facebook page or respond to the Tweet below… Ruddington Community…
Worldwide Wilbur – Village Cat Goes Global!
Last weekend we told you how Ruddington’s Wilbur the Cat had taken to social media and issued villagers with an invitation to his tenth birthday party next month. Since then, it seems the fame of our village’s favourite feline has spread right around the world! You can read more about Wilbur >>HERE<<. As well as RUDDINGTON.info spreading the news last Saturday of his special celebration, the idea of a ‘cat party’ also caught the attention of national news media, leading to an initial call from the BBC to Wilbur’s ‘publicist’ Nicola Burton! Nicola…
New Pentecostal Church for Ruddington
The original timing for announcing the launch of a brand new type of worship in Ruddington was rather unfortunate, to say the least. It was back in February 2020 – just a month before the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’! Edwalton-based ‘The Rock Church’ managed to host only ONE of its Pentecostal-style services in St Peter’s Rooms before further plans had to be put on hold due to the virus. Undeterred, its members returned to our village last summer, led by Ruddington’s new ‘Location Pastor’ Cathy Appelbee (famously the owner of Wilbur the Cat), for a further ‘trial’…
New Ruddington Defibrillator
As our village population continues to grow, so does the need for potentially life-saving yellow and green boxes in close proximity which are available to our community 24 hours a day. In the past few years, as well as inside various Ruddington premises and on standby for public events, several publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed at locations around our village. Now there’s another one – on the wall of the Old Chapel belonging to The Framework Knitters’ Museum down Chapel Street. It’s just been unveiled by electrician David Selby…
New Hedgehog Highways Opened!
Unlike for Ruddington’s road traffic at the moment, progress for one of our nocturnal creatures has just been made a little easier thanks to some generous, nature-loving volunteers from a nearby village. It’s after RUDDINGTON.info teamed up with Wild Things Keyworth this summer to ‘Help Our Hedgehogs’ by creating a hedgehog gap in a deserving Ruddington garden – which would be fitted with an especially carved and decorated ‘Ruddington Hedgehog Highway’ surround, too. In the end, the group’s founder, Jennifer Manning-Ohren, agreed with carpenter Simon Dunstan, artist Liz Waddell and chief gap-driller Nick Ellerby they’d…
Rock Revived in Ruddington!
Almost three and a half years’ ago we reported how Christian worshippers in our village would soon have another option – when Edwalton based ‘The Rock Church’ announced it would be holding monthly services in Ruddington. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ in March 2020 dictated that its first service in St Peter’s Rooms (pictured top) would also be its last … until now, that is. The local Pentecostal church, founded in 2010 and pioneered by husband and wife team pastors Alistair and Kate Kent, has announced the return of its “authentic, vibrant, charismatic church” to Ruddington with…
Overdue Junction Improvements Should Get ‘Green Light’ Soon
For over a year, frustration has been building among village motorists and other residents about the mounting peak-time traffic queues at Ruddington’s busiest crossroads. The increased delays at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane traffic lights are being blamed on a failure to carry out the promised junction improvement works there – as hundreds of new families move into the four, major new developments approved in Ruddington as part of the Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) ‘Local Plan Part Two’. As previously reported, Avant Homes in particular has come in for criticism after…
Historic Hedgerow Ripped Out “in Error”
The house-builder currently constructing 175 new properties on former Ruddington Green Belt south of Musters Road says a contractor removed a large section of mature hedgerow there by mistake. Gardeners from ‘Buttercup Allotments’ off Asher Lane were alerted to the totally unexpected loss of their boundary hedge when a contractor working for Avant Homes suddenly starting digging it out on Maundy Thursday. When the allotments’ owner Brian Booker rushed onsite to challenge them, protesting that removal of this hedgerow was definitely not in Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s approved plans for ‘Wilbur Chase’,…
