Last August we reported how a Ruddington based software company had announced its latest expansion would lead to the creation of around 400 more jobs here – a number which was then raised to 500 posts this spring. Payroll giant MHR has its UK site at Ruddington Fields Business Park – in ‘Britannia House’ (currently being refurbished) and the newly built ‘Wellington House’. The company, established in 1984, develops software already used in processing payments to around 10 percent of the UK’s workforce. MHR has previously received planning permission from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC)…

She ended up in intensive care, but is now recovering at home. The hospital administered anti-venom, and confirmed it was an adder bite. She has informed the park warden and asked me to share…

Ruddington residents who face having a new footpath and cycleway just feet from their homes say they were not properly consulted during the protracted planning process. Wayne Swift and his family live in one of the homes on Old Station Road {pictured top} which will be impacted by the route of this new public right of way. It’s set to be squeezed in at property level between the house boundaries {to the right of the existing fence} and the Clifton Road embankment. Wayne told us: “All those that want the…

Families from the travelling community, who unexpectedly made Ruddington their home recently, have now officially been told to leave. Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) says an eviction notice was served upon the travellers today by the legal services firm it has employed to handle this matter. As we reported last week, a procession of caravans and vehicles rolled onto Sellors’ Recreation Ground off Wilford Road on Thursday teatime (5th July) after the intruders simply lifted the access gate (right) off its hinges to let themselves in! This came as quite a shock…

Whilst many are enjoying the extended heatwave and glorious sunshine, unfortunately the hot and dry weather has had a negative impact on one of Ruddington’s key tourist attractions. After safety concerns, Great Central Railway (Nottingham) has cancelled all its planned steam services this Sunday (8th July). After initial worries about trackside fires being caused by sparks from the funnel of the historic Hunslet 2890 ‘Douglas’ loco, which was due to operate today, the reason given was “…issues affecting the rail caused by the current heatwave.” GCRN’s statement adds: “A further inspection will take place…

Our village is now home to families from the travelling community – after they gained access to Sellors Playing Field and moved their caravans and vehicles onto the recreation ground yesterday (Thursday) teatime. It seems the unexpected visitors managed to lift the locked metal access gate off Wilford Road from its hinges at one side and haul it open to enable them to get in and set up their encampment. It happened just as members of Impact Fitness were setting up for their evening “bootcamp” there. Having first been driven around, one…

Outlets in Ruddington are being encouraged to join a new scheme enabling the public to refill their reusable water bottles here free of charge – and so reduce single-use plastics. Rushcliffe Borough Council says it’s looking for environmentally minded groups or individuals to join “Refill Rushcliffe” – for the benefit of both village residents and the many visitors who flock to Ruddington. The authority is exploring the award winning ‘City to Sea’ scheme – where businesses and community venues can act as a filling up point for thirsty passers-by signposted by stickers…
