Could the Tour of Britain be returning to Ruddington?

There’s been some excitement among villagers today following this morning’s announcement that the ‘Tour of Britain’ will be back in Nottinghamshire this summer. Our county is to host the fifth stage of this year’s elite cycle race on Thursday 8th September – four years to the day since the last time. Anyone resident in Ruddington in 2018 can’t fail to remember the anticipation created by the route coming right through the centre of our village, which led to months of preparation ahead of ‘the big day’ by individuals, local businesses, numerous…

Police Appeal Following Village Centre ‘Altercation’

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following what appeared to be two back-to-back incidents in Ruddington Village Centre last week. Customers and staff at Ruddington Fish Bar watched in some bemusement as the first early evening fracas unfolded on Thursday (3rd February) at just after 6pm. Owner Demetrios Lawton told RUDDINGTON.info: “Police are everywhere!” speculating that it could a ‘domestic’, or possibly ‘road rage’. Around an hour later he added: “There is another one now, in the middle of Church Street! It seems to be a totally different incident.” Officers who attended…

Council Tax Rises Approved in Budget Proposals

As Ruddington residents brace ourselves for a sudden hike in our fuel costs this April, due to the higher new energy price cap set by Ofgem, at least there’s some better news from Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) today. Whilst NCC’s share of our Council Tax is set to go up again in the next financial year, it will only be by around 1% – whereas this time last year its increase was an inflation-busting 3%!  The Budget proposals for 2022/23, approved at today’s Finance Committee meeting, will also see the ‘Adult…

Normal Bus Services Resume

Ruddington bus passengers are welcoming the news that the services from our main village operator will revert to their previous levels later this month. Nottingham City Transport (NCT) cut back its operations on January 10th citing the rising number of Coronavirus cases and a shortage of bus drivers. However, with driver availability improving considerably, and the shortfall now less than half of the 10% NCT was experiencing, it’s announced that Friday 18th February 2022 will be the last day it needs to operate its “enhanced Saturday timetable” on weekdays. Previous Monday…

Britmask Has it Covered

Whilst the UK’s Coronavirus vaccination programme has allowed a significant easing of restrictions since the COVID-19  pandemic hit Ruddington early in 2020, including the recent removal of temporary ‘Plan B’ rules imposed after fears about the ‘Omicron’ variant, the wish to continue keeping ourselves and others safe has made wearing face coverings in certain public places a ‘new normal’ in our everyday lives. Concerns about the environment have also led many of us to dump disposable face masks in favour of more comfortable, washable alternatives which we can use again and…

Keep It Covered?

This Thursday sees the lifting of the government’s so-called ‘Plan B’ Coronavirus measures in England – brought in by Boris Johnson last November due to the threat of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 overwhelming our NHS. Whilst the number of cases in the UK surged again over Christmas, recent data suggests a levelling off of Coronavirus infections and a generally less severe illness from the new strain – at least for those who are vaccinated or who have had a previous COVID-19 infection and recovered from it. Therefore, from…
