More Village Centre Roadworks

No sooner has Cadent Gas finally completed its over-running repair work – which closed Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill for almost two weeks – village centre traders and motorists in Ruddington are immediately facing more potential disruption and delays this week. Yesterday (Monday 29th November) business owners on High Street received a letter of confirmation from Severn Trent that the planned work around Kempson Street is going ahead for three days, from today. This is to provide a new water connection for additional homes (artist’s impression below) being built along there. As…

Dutton’s Hill Closure Extended!

Motorists, bus users and business owners in Ruddington have expressed dismay on learning that the recent traffic disruption in our village centre will continue for even longer – with emergency gas main work on Wilford Road STILL unfinished. Originally it was planned that two-way traffic signals would suffice whilst Cadent carried out repairs to a fractured gas main under Dutton’s Hill. However, last Wednesday (17th Nov) the busy route was suddenly shut without notice on safety grounds when it was discovered the gas leak was worse than anticipated. That closure was finally due…

Dutton’s Hill Emergency Closure

Drivers trying to get through Ruddington village centre today faced unexpected delays and diversions – after emergency gas work shut Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill at around 3pm*. As queues formed around the closure, Nottingham City Transport was forced to divert its Navy 3 service away from Ruddington village centre – leaving passengers stranded at bus stops. Traffic chaos has also been reported along St Mary’s Crescent – as drivers attempted to find their own diversionary route via St John’s Road and the Rufford Road estate. There’s now an important update…

Ruddington’s November Roadworks

Village residents and drivers have been warned to expect more queues on Wilford Road due to another week of temporary traffic lights – this time for gas work in connection with the new ‘Fairham Green’ housing development. There also further work on Wilford Road for BT cable access – with daytime temporary signals – straight afterwards. Additionally during November, there’s set to be gas work on Kirk Lane, street lamp replacement along Clifton Road, Severn Trent Water work in our village centre, and the usual ninety minute road closure outside St…

No Traffic Lights for our Village Centre

Ruddington residents and village Councillors are expressing dismay that one of the key planning conditions for the approval of 175 houses down Asher Lane has now been abandoned by Rushcliffe Borough Council without a clear alternative. At a meeting of its Planning Committee yesterday, Councillors voted 7 to 2 in favour of allowing Avant Homes  to continue letting residents move into its ‘Wilbur Chase’ development – despite not all the stipulated highway improvements having yet been completed. The original planning conditions were imposed to avoid worsening the peak-time traffic congestion through our village…

Flawforth Lane Shut This Week

As well as empty filling stations caused by panic buying, there’s another source of angst for Ruddington’s hard pressed motorists this week – the closure of Flawforth Lane. Thankfully it’s due to take place only from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th September – substantially less than a previous three week closure sought last month by Linden Homes in connection with its ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development. Although the contractor did shut the road for a few hours by mistake, seemingly due to a misunderstanding (top photo courtesy of Ruddington Mums), in the end that work…

Housebuilder Rapped for Planning Breach

Residents at the southern end of our village have sent an official complaint to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) after it became clear that a Ruddington property developer is allowing the first households to move into its new homes in violation of agreed planning conditions. Avant Homes (Midlands) is currently building 175 dwellings south of Musters Road – a new 15.89 acre estate, controversially approved on our former Green Belt, called ‘Wilbur Chase’. Existing villagers were alerted to the company’s transgression by its own social media last week, which pictured a couple…

Disruptive Ruddington Roadworks Extended

It’s been announced that roadworks responsible for long delays at the Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane junction will NOT be completed by this Friday (27th August) as originally planned*. These are in connection with the new ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ housing development.  A spokesperson for Via East Midlands, which is co-ordinating the work, reveals an extension to the duration of the new sewer installation has been requested by the works’ promoter, Vistry Homes. Via says: “This has been granted until Monday (30th August) for the works in this junction to be completed, as there will be…

Criminals Target Development Sites

It seems the various building sites around Ruddington at the moment are presenting new opportunities for criminals. The latest village crime statistics just released by Rushcliffe Police show that, last month, Linden Homes’ ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development was targeted again by thieves – who this time managed to get away with thousands of pounds worth of scaffolding from its construction site. This follows previous thefts of building items from its Flawforth Lane site the previous month – plus a diesel road roller from the Avant Homes development on Asher Lane and…
