New Village Festival & Open Gardens Planned

If you’ve lived in Ruddington for a little while, you may remember ‘Open Gardens’ events being organised in our village? In the summers of 2016 and 2018 these were staged in aid of Save the Children and Action for Children and proved a big hit with villagers and visitors alike. Last time around, an impressive £2280 was raised for the two charities. Sadly, COVID-19 put a stop to the biennial event happening last year. The good news is that it should return NEXT year. One of the organisers, Jane Piggott, says: “For the summer of…

There’s Movement at the Methodists’

Following an unprecedented period where there has been a very uncharacteristic lack of activity at the distinctive and historic Church Street building, Ruddington Methodist Church springs back to life this weekend! Of course, like many others in our village, the chapel (dating from 1873) was closed for services and other gatherings in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s just taken a little longer than some to get restarted, now all COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Kathy Powis reveals: “After nearly 18 months of complete shut-down or occasional services, we are…

New Community Centre Designs Unveiled

It’s being reported there’s been an overwhelmingly positive response so far to plans by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) for its proposed community facilities behind The Green. Its decision to demolish the existing building and build a brand new community centre for our village followed an online survey the Council carried out late last year.  Nevertheless, RPC had hoped that the present premises (opened only in 1983) might be brought back into use temporarily whilst funding was sought for the new building. Unfortunately, it reports this has not proved to be a viable option. This is…

EURO 2021 at The White Horse

We’re being invited to get behind England this month as the delayed UEFA European Football Championships finally get underway. The White Horse Inn has created a dedicated ‘Ruddington Fan Park’ featuring large outdoor screens for COVID safe viewing of all the big matches during the EURO 2021 tournament. However, booking a table as soon as possible is strongly advised because the Church Street venue expects very high demand – especially during the England games. Pub owner Andy Hunt says: “After everything we’ve been through we need good events like this –…
