‘RUDD Awards’ Shortlist Revealed

Organisers of the first ever ‘RUDD Awards’ have just announced the 18 finalists – individuals, businesses and community groups from the village who’ve been shortlisted from over 300 nominations. The inaugural ‘RUDD Awards’ were launched in July 2022 by RVCP, Ruddington Village Community Partnership, to celebrate locals who’re making a difference to life in Ruddington, as well as contributing to a thriving ‘community hub and prosperous high street’. It’s now three years since we first found out that Ruddington’s last remaining public telephone box would be decommissioned – when BT Payphones announced its lack of use made it no longer viable to keep it in service. The Grade II listed, traditional, red, cast iron kiosk in front of the War Memorial on Church Street {pictured top left} is a Type K6 designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Since last Thursday’s very sad and rather unexpected news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, residents, businesses and organisations here in Ruddington have been paying their respects in different ways. Tributes have flooded in online and in person to express our local grief, love and admiration for Britain’s longest ever reigning Monarch, whose Platinum Jubilee was celebrated so magnificently in our village just three months before her death, at the age of 96. Buckingham Palace has announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon (Thursday 8th September 2022). She was 96. The Queen was the UK’s longest-serving monarch, reigning for 70 years, with extensive celebrations to mark her Platinum Jubilee having taken place in Ruddington just three months’ ago. Ruddington Grange Golf Club was established in our village in 1988. However, unless you’re a regular golfer, it’s possible you don’t know very much about it. The fifth stage of The ‘Tour of Britain’ national cycling race is now just days away, with cycling fans, residents and businesses preparing to see this sporting spectacle as it returns to Ruddington on Thursday 8th September.
