Christmas Market Cancelled

It’s been announced that Ruddington’s 2020 Christmas Market and Fayre has had to be called off due to continuing concerns about COVID-19. Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) took over the responsibility of organising our village’s biggest, annual, festive event from Ruddington Parish Council earlier this year – and had ambitious new plans to host gazebo stalls and street foods all along Church Street and High Street, along with further food, drink and makers stalls at multiple indoor venues around the village centre. However, despite an easing of government restrictions, it…

Lockdown Bike Fixes

Meet Ruddington resident Julian Bentley! He is a self-employed maths tutor who, like many others, watched his normal workload drop away during ‘lockdown’ although continued to offer some Maths tutoring by video. Meantime, as lockdown began, Julian noticed a lot of new bicycle riders in and around the village – many of whom were having difficulties such as saddles set too low, insufficiently inflated tyres and so on. “I knew from spending three years as a cycle Instructor that a lot of new riders would have a knowledge gap around cycling…

After the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning (17th July 2020), about using public transport for all journeys, Nottingham City Transport (NCT) says it looks forward to welcoming us back on board. As COVID-19 Coronavirus restrictions continue to be eased, Boris Johnson has said it’s now okay to catch a bus for any journey, not just for essential travel. With both Ruddington’s Navy 3 and Green 10 services now back to a full timetable that means a leisure trip by bus for a #RuddyGoodDayOut is back on the agenda! However, passengers…

School Cycling Route Plans in Jeopardy

Campaigners fear their hopes for a designated cycleway from Ruddington to Rushcliffe School may have been dashed by the failure of the County Council to secure over £300,000 of cash earmarked for such schemes. Pedals Nottingham Cycle Campaign says it’s dismayed that Nottinghamshire County Council achieved just 46% of its potential funding from The Government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund – designed to improve cycling and pedestrian provision for residents to have a safe alternative to public transport in light of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. The authority won just £263,250 out of the potential…

Ruddington Library Reopens

After almost four months of being shut due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, as UK Government restrictions continue to be eased, Ruddington Library is reopening its doors this week. The sudden closure on March 21st not only halted its loans and reference services but also caused the cancellation of special events, such as Henry Normal‘s planned appearance, and halted numerous village classes and group sessions which usually happen in the building on a monthly basis. Whilst some activities and usual facilities will take a while to return, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Libraries…

‘So Far So Good’ Say Police

Rushcliffe Police say Saturday’s easing of ‘lockdown’ restrictions – meaning Ruddington’s numerous pubs and other hospitality venues could reopen their premises – did not create any major issues for its officers. As we reported on ‘Super Saturday’ (July 4th), the new freedoms saw the centre of our village the busiest it’s been for many months (top photo) helped by the return of the Ruddington Village Market, on The Green. Most villagers and visitors seemed to be adhering to the required ‘social distancing’ guidelines. Julie Smith of the Black Cat Café tells us:…

NCT is “Good to Go!”

Ruddington’s main bus operator has achieved Visit Britain’s official industry standard, which confirms it’s following industry and Government guidance on COVID-19, ‘social distancing’ and cleanliness. Nottingham City Transport (NCT) runs our village’s frequent and friendly Navy 3 and Green 10 services – which returned to a full timetable on June 28th – and has now officially been awarded “Good to Go!” status. This new standard is a sign of businesses being able to demonstrate that they are adhering to the COVID-19 guidance issued by the government for their sector, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment…

Village Market on The Green Hailed a Huge Success

This weekend Ruddington Village Market returned after a four month physical absence, and it was a huge success – with organisers, traders and visitors doing an outstanding job of relaunching as a ‘socially distanced’ market in its new location on the village green. At 9am everyone was ready to go, and queues started forming at some of the most missed and hotly anticipated stands. Market regulars Split Screen Coffee, Beeston Brownies and Duke & Grey had orderly queues forming from early on, with small orange cones marking the 2 metre queuing…

Hello to Hospitality and Haircuts in Ruddington

Dubbed ‘Super Saturday’, TODAY sees the latest step in the Government’s easing down of COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions. Our village pubs, cafés, bars, restaurants, barbers and hairdressers are now permitted to open for the first time since March 20th. It seems the majority in Ruddington are actually doing so. Much work has been going on behind the scenes over the past few weeks whilst the owners and tenants of village venues of many different shapes and sizes have been working out if, how and when they can be ‘Covid safe’ to reopen…
