Our representative in Parliament has performed something of a U-Turn today in a letter to the Prime Minister – saying that “with great sadness” quitting her current Parliamentary role has become necessary in order to keep her “self respect intact”. A popular Ruddington child care facility, which has been looking after villagers’ babies and pre-school children for the past 23 years, has been sold by its original owner. The planning application to construct an archery range on agricultural land north of Ruddington has been withdrawn. After being told earlier this year they would be losing their current facilities in Wollaton Park, Wilford Bowmen were seeking a new site as a matter of urgency. With Ruddington’s reported crime rate more than doubling during April*, this week village residents had the opportunity to meet up and discuss the issue of policing our village with Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards and representatives from Nottinghamshire Police. Local archers may soon have a new location to practice their sport if an application to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is successful – on green fields at the edge of Ruddington. Wilford Bowmen are seeking permission to change the use of agricultural land east Of Wilwell Cottage, alongside Wilford Road, to house an outdoor archery range with a parking area for twenty vehicles, access gate, storage containers and toilet block. Rushcliffe Police have just released their Ruddington crime statistics for last month. The figures show that only eight incidents were reported to them from our village via 101 and online from 1st March to 31st March 2022. Two of our new housing developments were targeted again, in addition to thefts from unattended vehicles, a business burglary and drivers failing to pay for their fuel at Ruddington’s filling station. It’s been confirmed that the fifth stage of the ‘Tour of Britain’ will be passing right through Ruddington this summer. The elite cycle race will again come via the centre of our village on Thursday 8th September 2022 – four years to the day since the last time. Children in their final year at St Peter’s in Ruddington are celebrating this week after it was confirmed they will be able to stay with their friends in September. Tuesday was ‘National Offer Day’ – when the parents and guardians of all current Year 6 pupils attending our village junior school were informed whether or not they had been successful in getting their son or daughter a place at their chosen secondary school.
