Roadworks Return to Loughborough Road

Village residents and drivers are being warned to brace themselves for yet more queues on the A60 from this week, whilst further work takes place around the Mere Way roundabout. Whilst there has already been a week of two-way temporary traffic lights outside Balmore Country House – for cabling work in the pavement by the new Pelican Crossing – there are also NEW multi-way signals scheduled for Seven Trent Water roadworks on Loughborough Road over most of this October half-term. Please be aware of other planned work on Kirk Lane, Vicarage Lane and…

Flawforth Lane Shut This Week

As well as empty filling stations caused by panic buying, there’s another source of angst for Ruddington’s hard pressed motorists this week – the closure of Flawforth Lane. Thankfully it’s due to take place only from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th September – substantially less than a previous three week closure sought last month by Linden Homes in connection with its ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development. Although the contractor did shut the road for a few hours by mistake, seemingly due to a misunderstanding (top photo courtesy of Ruddington Mums), in the end that work…

What Next for Ruddington Parking Troublespot?

Residents and businesses in and around Cumberland Close will have to wait and see what’s decided by the authorities – now that their views on how to solve the local parking problem have been submitted. It follows long-standing frustration that inconsiderate parkers on both sides of this residential cul-de-sac, off Easthorpe Street, were frequently blocking residents’ driveways, obstructing pavements and narrowing the road to such an extent that wider vehicles servicing the properties could not get through. Face-to-face confrontation between residents and car users ensued – followed by damage to vehicles and near-misses…

Disruptive Ruddington Roadworks Extended

It’s been announced that roadworks responsible for long delays at the Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane junction will NOT be completed by this Friday (27th August) as originally planned*. These are in connection with the new ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ housing development.  A spokesperson for Via East Midlands, which is co-ordinating the work, reveals an extension to the duration of the new sewer installation has been requested by the works’ promoter, Vistry Homes. Via says: “This has been granted until Monday (30th August) for the works in this junction to be completed, as there will be…

NEXT … a Cumberland Close Consultation!

In a move designed to “solve” at least ONE of Ruddington’s numerous parking issues, village residents on a quiet cul-de-sac off Easthorpe Street may finally see an end to motorists obstructing access to their properties. Via East Midlands – which works on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council to deliver its highway services – has launched a public consultation* on proposals which would see all parking banned from Cumberland Close during the day. Currently only a short length on both sides from its junction with Easthorpe Street has double-yellows, meaning “No Waiting…

Wilford Road Closing for a Week

Drivers are being reminded that Wilford Road in Ruddington is to be shut for a whole week this August as highway contractors finish constructing the new junction into the Bloor Homes ‘Fairham Green’ development. The current temporary traffic lights will be swapped for a total road closure from Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th August inclusive whilst these roadworks are carried out, meaning (except in an emergency) no vehicular traffic will be allowed through. However, it’s understood the shared footway will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists throughout. Another casualty of…

Flawforth Lane Road Closure Cancelled

A three week closure of Flawforth Lane next month in connection with Linden Homes’ ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development has been called off. This had been requested from August 9th to August 27th to enable the completion of the junction into the new estate – also involving widening of the footpath and the installation of a combined sewer. However, given this is such a busy route in and out of the village, Linden Homes has now decided this work can be carried out using multi-way temporary traffic lights, rather than needing a road closure…

Road Closures in our Village

Residents are being warned to prepare themselves for further disruption over the next couple of weeks as two roads in Ruddington village centre are closed for roadworks – with diversions for motorists and public transport put in force. These are on High Street and Parkyns Street – with full details below. However, that’s only the START of it… This latest work is in addition to the over-running highway reconstruction on Loughborough at the Mere Way Roundabout to create a suitable access for the new William Davis Homes development – which will not now be…

Further Disruptive Roadworks Ahead

As Asher Lane residents prepare themselves for a week’s total road closure, it seems motorists and property owners along Loughborough Road will have to put up with delays and disruption for even longer after ‘delays in the schedule’ resulted in yet another revised end-date being issued for completing major roadworks there. The highway reconstruction at the Mere Way Roundabout to create a suitable access for the new William Davis Homes development on former Green Belt farmland began in September 2020. It was originally scheduled for completion on March 26th 2021 but will…

Asher Lane To Be Shut for a Week!

In another frustrating turn of events for villagers and visitors, it’s been announced that a key access road at the southern end of Ruddington will need to be totally closed for a week this summer. As the construction of 175 new homes at the ‘Wilbur Chase’ housing development gathers pace, “carriageway improvement work” on behalf of Avant Homes will shut Asher Lane from its junction with Distillery Street to its junction with Musters Road from 7.30am on Monday 14th June through to 4.30pm on Friday 18th June. It’s believed this closure is for the widening…
