This week’s milestone date of Monday 17th May has been pencilled in our diaries for a few months now – the point promised on the ‘roadmap’ for a further easing of Coronavirus restrictions in England – assuming all went to plan. Hospitality venues in Ruddington preparing to reopen indoors had begun wondering in recent days whether clusters of cases of the new ‘Indian’ COVID-19 variant in other parts of the UK might put a spanner in the works – following fresh warnings from some scientists not to proceed with ‘Step 3’…

Reported Village Crime Increases Post-Lockdown
Crime statistics for Ruddington, just released by Rushcliffe Police for April 2021, show a significant rise in reported offences when compared with the first three months of this year. The end of the strictest ‘lockdown’ measures here is thought to be a contributory factor – with more people now out and about and more village premises now open for business. Car crimes also increased during last month. Sadly, further graffiti vandalism was reported at Great Central Railway Nottingham – after a similar incident in January – whilst drive-offs without paying for…

Leader Dan Clifford explains: “First Ruddington Scouts is a thriving group with over 100 boys and girls looking for exciting, fun and adventurous activities to support their personal development and wellbeing. However, the successful future of the Scouts organisation in…

Whilst our village centre is now ‘buzzing’ again following the return of non-essential retail after a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions on April 12th, shoppers may have noticed there’s still no sign of life at one of Ruddington’s much loved charity shops. The Children’s Society Shop at the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street closed its doors over a year ago – at the beginning of the first Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ – and hasn’t traded again since. A notice on the door has long been directing TCS customers wishing to shop or…
Read MoreFormer Youth Centre to Be Demolished and Replaced
The new owners of the former Youth & Community Centre on The Green – which has lain empty and disused for over four years – have revealed how they plan to bulldoze it and erect more modern facilities in its place. As we’ve previously reported, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) bought the building from Nottinghamshire County Council in 2019. Their planned public consultation on its future was delayed by the Coronavirus outbreak. Meantime, the onsite parking there has been made available to village traders in order to free up visitor spaces nearer the shops.…

The gradual easing of Coronavirus restrictions means you may now wish to take the opportunity to get together with a wider circle of people in our village (and beyond) to exercise and socialise – albeit in a ‘socially distanced’ way. Therefore, if you’d like to reassure yourself you have not picked up COVID-19 which you could inadvertently pass on to others, you can now collect a FREE kit from Evans Pharmacy on Charles Street*.
