Major Ruddington roadworks which have already been causing peak time headaches for motorists for months are being extended by at least another three weeks. From Loughborough comes news that a major two-day operation at the start of this month has ‘all but’ finished the overhaul of the elegant Victorian railway bridge which spans the Grand Union Canal in the town. Volunteers from Ruddington’s heritage railway are celebrating reaching another milestone in its ‘reunification’ project to create an 18 mile train line all the way between our village and Birstall on the outskirts of Leicester. The tracks comprising Ruddington’s Great Central Railway – Nottingham (GCRN) and Loughborough’s Great Central Railway (GCR) are set to be rejoined once the 500 metre gap in the middle is bridged – meaning services will then be able to run between the two for the first time since 1969. New Ruddington Car Park To Open Soon

Ruddington’s first ever multi-storey car park is taking shape – with construction of the eco-friendly, four floor facility along Mere Way now well underway. The new car park is being built for HR and payroll software and services firm MHR by regional construction firm Stepnell. Although it is for employee use only, plans to increase the workforce there to 700 people mean more parking space is now needed. Hot on the heels of planning approval being given to developers to build a major new retirement complex in Manor Park, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has also given the go-ahead for a major expansion of existing accommodation for elderly residents in Ruddington. Long Awaited Footpath and Cycleway Opened!

Ruddington’s long campaigned for “safe” footway from Clifton Road via the Old Station Drive development directly into the Pasture Lane Estate is finally finished. Land clearance along its route was undertaken late last year before construction began in earnest on January 7th. Ten weeks later, the main work has now been completed on schedule – with the footpath quietly opening to pedestrians without any ceremony today (Saturday March 16th). The name of a contractor building new homes in our village has recently become “mud” for some residents and traders on a Ruddington estate! HTC Construction is currently erecting the first half-dozen houses of its “Lace Gardens” development – which will eventually see 28 new homes put up at the corner of Brookside Road and Woodhouse Gardens.
