Mere Way Junction Roadworks Extended Again

Major Ruddington roadworks which have already been causing peak time headaches for motorists for months are being extended by at least another three weeks.

The work on Loughborough Road at the Mere Way roundabout to create a suitable access for the new William Davis Homes development on former Green Belt farmland began in September 2020. It was originally scheduled for completion on March 26th 2021 but will not now be finished until at least Friday 11th June. The revised end date is said to be “…due to various delays on site”.

Chris Brown, Assistant Network Manager for VIA East Midlands explains: “Western Power Distribution are booked in on the 15th May to undertake their mains cable diversion. This requires open joint pits within various locations of VIA works, so these areas cannot be fully completed until these are done. Their works are planned to be completed on 2nd June. Then we shall hopefully be able to complete our other works on site.”

He adds: “We are still waiting for the developer to confirm what works Severn Trent are undertaking with the shallow water main that was found in phase 1. This requires a diversion which is yet TBC. Unfortunately, this may also impact completion by 11th June.”

As shown above, the revised junction for the new 180 home development comprises a new toucan crossing and a new entrance on to the estate. This consists of kerbing works, carriageway widening, new footways/cycleways plus resurfacing of carriageways and footways with new white lining, anti-skid surface, installation of a new refuge island with crossing points, tree works on site and also a street lighting upgrade.

Meantime, more NEW roadworks begin this week for five weeks along Wilford Road – in connection with the Bloor Homes development – also on former Green Belt land. These are likely to mean further delays for drivers and passengers who use Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 bus.
