This week, three of Britain’s biggest conservation charities – The National Trust, World Wildlife Fund and RSPB – have announced they’re joining forces to try to halt the destruction of UK nature using Sir David Attenborough’s ‘Save Our Wild Isles’ campaign as their inspiration. Part of this battle is happening very close to home, as Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) pledges to improve the hedgerow network in and around Ruddington to protect our local wildlife and help tackle the ‘climate emergency’ it declared in March 2019. The authority says it is now working closely with…

‘Offer Day’ Dismay For New Ruddington Families
Just over a week ago it was National Secondary School ‘Offer Day’ – when the parents and guardians of all current Year 6 children in Ruddington were informed by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) whether (or not) they had been successful in getting their son or daughter a place at their first choice secondary school. It brought good news for our longer term village residents whose children are pupils in their final year at St Peter’s Junior School and had applied to go to Rushcliffe Spencer Academy (formerly Rushcliffe School) – Ruddington’s usual ‘feeder…
Appeal Against Planning Refusal on The Green
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal of permission to build a contemporary, new home at the heart of Ruddington’s conservation area [22/00485/FUL] is being appealed by the applicant. In March 2022 Building Design (Nottm) Ltd submitted plans to demolish the current garage belonging to 6, The Green (‘The White House’) to make way for a modern two storey house (plus attic room) to be built ‘next door’ over the current garden – filling the “gap” seen in the photograph above. You can find further details >>HERE<<. Now it seems these controversial plans may yet see…
Historic Ash Tree Felled by Developer
Ruddington residents overlooking the new Wilbur Chase development south of Musters Road are expressing their dismay that a large, mature tree next to the site has been chopped down today – despite their pleas to save it. The historic Ash tree sat on the boundary of the field owned by village businessman John Hallam and the former green belt agricultural land next to it – upon which Avant Homes is now constructing 175 controversially approved new houses. Retention of this 17 metre tall tree was clearly shown on the developer’s…
Property Developer’s Second Planning Breach
It’s been confirmed the house-builder currently constructing 175 new houses on almost sixteen acres of Ruddington’s former Green Belt south of Musters Road has breached its planning conditions for the second time in just over a year. Residents nearby have reacted with dismay at being told a total of 38 ‘Wilbur Chase’ properties are now occupied – breaching even the revised 35 property limit set by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Stipulations for Avant Homes (Midlands)‘s original planning approval for this estate included that off-site highway improvement works to the A60/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane junction…
That’s a Good Sign!
Former Parish Councillor Barbara Breakwell is well known for her proactivity in Ruddington, over very many years; helping to run various groups, assisting villagers and businesses to solve numerous problems, addressing traffic issues, and generally making life in Ruddington better for us all. From ‘Ruddington Fun’ – to a James Peacock School Governor – to being the driving force behind getting a safe, new footpath for Pasture Lane residents – to the new Ruddington & District U3A – to donating her own special Royal Oak tree for The Green during the…
Residents’ Concerns Over Second Planning Breach
Villagers living close to the ‘Wilbur Chase’ housing development in Ruddington say they’re very concerned that the property builder could soon be allowed to get away with another serious infringement of its planning conditions for the new estate. Avant Homes (Midlands) is currently constructing 175 new houses on our former Green Belt, south of Musters Road, on what used to be 15.89 acres of farmland. Residents first complained to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) in September last year when the developer began allowing households to move in to the first of its completed new properties…
Ruddington’s Jubilee Banner
The impressive result of months of planning and knitting was revealed today – as Ruddington prepares to celebrate the long Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend in style. The finished, knitted banner was hoisted up outside The Framework Knitters’ Museum on Chapel Street this lunchtime (Friday 27th May), watched by onlookers – some of whom are actually featured within the stitching of the giant artwork created by textile artist Marie Jones! You can watch our video of the very first, momentous raising of the new village banner below. As previously reported, Marie was commissioned…
New Ruddington Defibrillator
Residents in the area around Musters Road and in the new Wilbur Chase development now have much easier access to a piece of potentially life saving equipment – thanks to an initiative by Ruddington Baptist Church. The church has just unveiled a new defibrillator for public use at the southern end of our village – conveniently located on the wall at the front of its base ‘The Hub’ at 62, Musters Road. Baptist Minister Sam Hackett, other church members and invited guests attended a ‘ribbon cutting’ ceremony last night (Tuesday…
Ruddington Community Choir Concert
What better way to round off the Saturday of Ruddington’s 2019 Summer Fayre than this fundraising concertby Ruddington Community Choir? It’s taking place at Ruddington Methodist Church, on the corner of Church Street and Charles Street. Kathy Powis, from the Methodist Church Events Team, says: “Most of us will have some experience of dementia and the challenges it brings to families. Thankfully, there’s help and support out there and we in Ruddington are fortunate to have Bloomin’ Dementia on our doorstep. We’re also very proud of our local Community Choir…
