Good News for Ruddington Recyclers?

If you’re trying to reduce the amount of landfill you generate on our increasingly polluted and wasteful planet, you may be pleased to hear of a new trial taking place at Nottinghamshire recycling centres. Juice cartons and Tetra Paks cannot be placed into Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘blue’ bins and so villagers have to travel elsewhere to recycle them – otherwise just throw them away with the rest of our household waste. Existing carton recycling sites in Rushcliffe, nearest to Ruddington, include Asda at West Bridgford, Morrisons at Gamston and Bridgford Road…

Yet More Green Belt Homes?

A planning application has been received by Rushcliffe Borough Council to expand one of the current housing developments into further land which was previously part of Ruddington’s Green Belt. Construction of ‘Lace Fields’ by William Davis Homes on the former fields opposite Mere Way got underway last September, after being approved in the Rushcliffe Local Plan Part 2 for 170 new homes. Since then, tweaks during the detailed application stages have seen the property developer get permission to increase the density of its housing there to accommodate 185 new homes.…

Incinerator Plans Approved

In August last year, RUDDINGTON.info reported on a village-led campaign to “Stop the Incinerator” which was being proposed for the site of the soon-to-be decommissioned Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station. It followed an application submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) in July 2020 by Uniper UK Limited for the development of ‘The East Midlands Energy Re-Generation’ (EMERGE) Centre – which it described as a ‘multifuel energy recovery facility – to recover energy from waste material’. Big Increase in Fly-Tipping Fines

A Ruddington nature reserve is one of the recent sites blighted by fly-tippers which has led to a fine being served against the offenders. The contents of this illegal dump in the entrance to Wilwell Farm Cutting on Wilford Road (pictured above) were sufficient for investigators to trace their source and so identify the culprits. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) reports that its action on rogue fly-tippers has increased hugely in Rushcliffe since the beginning of 2021 – with over 70 fixed penalty notices given out to those found blighting local spots…

New Ruddington Skate Park Opens

Skate boarders, scooter riders and BMXers are celebrating the opening of Ruddington’s new skate park – funded by Rushcliffe Borough Council and supported by Skate Nottingham, Canvas Spaces and VIA East Midlands. The £210,000 concrete structure at Rushcliffe Country Park has been praised as another landmark facility – not just for our village but for the whole of Nottinghamshire. A meeting of Rushcliffe Borough Councillors this week is expected to agree that the Ruddington Neighbourhood Plan should proceed to a referendum among villagers.* It’s after independent examiner David Kaiserman concluded that the Regulation 15 Submission Version met the ‘prescribed basic conditions’ and other statutory requirements – although this was subject to a total of 32 modifications he outlined in his March 2021 report.
