Ruddington Nature Pioneer Receives Recognition

The driving force behind a Ruddington nature reserve is among the winners of this year’s ‘Celebrating Rushcliffe Awards’.  For 2021 a ‘physical’ ceremony returned – and was held last night (December 8th) at The Rushcliffe Arena.  Gordon Dyne, Chair of the South Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, received recognition for his conservation work at Wilwell Farm Cutting Nature Reserve. Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ Festive Surprise!

Visitors to Ruddington village centre are being treated to an array of amazing, knitted creations this Christmas after an unexpected ‘yarn bomb’ added a new dimension to our more conventional festive decorations. With the usual traders’ Christmas trees and St Peter’s Rooms light installation already in place, yesterday (December 3rd) a group calling itself ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ swept through Church Street with hundreds of additional, seasonal creations to bring some festive colour for yuletide shoppers and sightseers. Village Centre Roadworks Postponed

In another strange but welcome turn of events, the planned work by Severn Trent Water around Kempson Street, which was due to start today (Tuesday 30th November), has been called off! Ruddington traders and motorists had been dreading more disruption and delays coming, as it was, straight after Cadent had only just completed its over-running gas main repair work. No sooner has Cadent Gas finally completed its over-running repair work – which closed Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill for almost two weeks – village centre traders and motorists in Ruddington are immediately facing more potential disruption and delays this week. Bloomin’ Marvellous!

A Ruddington charity which was set up four years’ ago to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families has been the first to officially receive its cash from the 2020-2021 round of the Co-op Local Community Fund.  Local shoppers raised a total £5232.13 for Bloomin’ Dementia, based on Easthorpe Street, and representatives were presented with their cheque at the Church Street Food Store yesterday (November 25th). Dutton’s Hill Closure Extended!

Motorists, bus users and business owners in Ruddington have expressed dismay on learning that the recent traffic disruption in our village centre will continue for even longer – with emergency gas main work on Wilford Road STILL unfinished. Originally it was planned that two-way traffic signals would suffice whilst Cadent carried out repairs to a fractured gas main under Dutton’s Hill. Dutton’s Hill Emergency Closure

Drivers trying to get through Ruddington village centre today faced unexpected delays and diversions – after emergency gas work shut Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill at around 3pm*. As queues formed around the closure, Nottingham City Transport was forced to divert its Navy 3 service away from Ruddington village centre – leaving passengers stranded at bus stops. Traffic chaos has also been reported along St Mary’s Crescent – as drivers attempted to find their own diversionary route via St John’s Road and the Rufford Road estate. New Village Festival & Open Gardens Planned

If you’ve lived in Ruddington for a little while, you may remember ‘Open Gardens’ events being organised in our village? In the summers of 2016 and 2018 these were staged in aid of Save the Children and Action for Children and proved a big hit with villagers and visitors alike.
