An ‘eyesore’ mobile telecommunications mast at one of Ruddington’s green gateways – which was only erected in October 2017 after being controversially approved by Rushcliffe planners – is already set to be replaced. It seems the fifty foot tall ‘mono-pole’ alongside Wilford Road bordering Ruddington Grange Golf Course is no longer fit for purpose – despite being less that two and a half years’ old. New work which is set to take place over the next fortnight will mean further traffic disruption along this route whilst the current mast is taken down and a new one…

Do YOU Know a Ruddington Community Hero or Heroine?
Nottinghamshire County Council has launched its biannual search for people who go the extra mile for a neighbour, an organisation or our local community. Chairman Kevin Rostance (pictured above with winners and nominees from last year) is appealing for nominations for this Spring’s ‘Nottinghamshire Community Heroes’ – giving villagers chance to put Ruddington on the map. Councillor Rostance said: “I am delighted to launch the next round of our Community Hero Award. The award gives us the opportunity to celebrate the wonderful people of Nottinghamshire and say thank you to many unsung…

A man who was arrested and charged by Rushcliffe Police in connection with two incidents separated by just ten minutes at our two Ruddington food stores last October has been sent to prison for two and a half years. 44 year-old Keith McLachlan, who admitted robbery, attempted robbery and having a bladed article, was jailed for his offences at Nottingham Crown Court. McLachlan entered the Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill (below) at about 5.40pm on Saturday 5th October 2019 and demanded a cashier should open the till. But he ran off empty handed after…
Read MoreIconic ‘Railbus’ for Ruddington
Ruddington’s Great Central Railway (Nottingham) has revealed that the latest addition to its heritage fleet should mean it will able to run trains here all year ’round. Please see the September 2020 update below*. Currently services are operated by its volunteers only through the summer, in the lead-up to Christmas and over some other half-term holiday periods**. However, the imminent arrival of a Class 144 DMU Railcar (144003) from Porterbrook, to become preserved for heritage use, could see services increasing to 52 weekends a year. Once it’s released from mainline duties during the first…

Co-owner Ricky Benwell, who grew up in the village and is the driving force behind the new venture, says:…

There’s currently one spare seat in Camelot Ward, three vacancies in Easthorpe Ward, two in Flawford Ward and one in Manor Ward. The areas…

A familiar face has been missing from the Junior Parkrun at Rushcliffe Country Park this year – that of Neil Breward – who only in November was celebrating volunteering at the weekly, Ruddington event for the 100th time. Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun organisers have revealed the sad news that Neil (pictured above left, marking this milestone with young volunteer Jake and event director Jo) passed away quite suddenly on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve. In a statement they say: “Neil Breward was part of our family. He would always marshal…

This week saw the first use of state-of-the-art ‘Eye in the Sky’ technology by Rushcliffe Police – leading almost immediately to two suspected criminals being caught. As we reported last year, Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have jointly invested in THREE new drones to help them fight both crime and fires – as well as to assist in search and rescue operations. During specialist training, officers have had to learn how to fly in various environments and in both day and night-time conditions to enable our area to have 24/7 coverage. Within hours…

Then there’s a Sunday afternoon event at St Peter’s Rooms where you can use these vouchers to “buy” other people’s items. Any stock that’s left over after this event will be donated to…
