Tributes Paid to Parkrun Volunteer

A familiar face has been missing from the Junior Parkrun at Rushcliffe Country Park this year – that of Neil Breward – who only in November was celebrating volunteering at the weekly, Ruddington event for the 100th time.

Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun organisers have revealed the sad news that Neil (pictured above left, marking this milestone with young volunteer Jake and event director Jo) passed away quite suddenly on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve.

In a statement they say: “Neil Breward was part of our family. He would always marshal and cheer-on our youngsters and he would always sit and have a chat afterwards in the visitor centre (always with a piece of cake). Like many of us, he started out as a supporting parent but as his daughter’s dance and musical commitments took over he would volunteer without her. Thank you to Neil for all that he did for us at Rushcliffe Juniors. He will be missed but also remembered.”

Until his retirement in 2013 Mr Breward worked as a Senior Geochemist at the British Geological Survey and had recently become a Keyworth Parish Councillor. He leaves behind his wife Kate and his daughter Alice.
