Butcher’s Will Shut By Easter

Another of our unique village centre shops is set to disappear within weeks due to an apparent lack of demand. Ruddington Village Butchers has faced closure on a couple of previous occasions over the last two years before a flurry of shoppers’ support twice offered the Church Street business a reprieve. However, it seems this public enthusiasm has not been maintained and so it will not be ‘third time lucky’. Owner Shane Ginty reveals: “The last trading year has been the worst ever for Ruddington Village Butchers resulting in the company…

Ruddington Neighbourhood Watchers Needed!

Earlier this month Rushcliffe Borough Council launched an invitation for residents to join Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in their area “to help reduce crime and promote safe, informed communities”. This led RUDDINGTON.info to discover that, out of all the Neighbourhood Watch groups dotted around our village, only ONE of them remains active! That’s the scheme covering the Ashworth Avenue, Packman Drive and Ling Crescent area which was initiated by local teacher and photographer Peter McConnochie: “I live in Packman Drive and decided to set up a local Neighbourhood Watch group several years ago…

Welcome To Wilbur Chase!

Just when you thought our globally celebrated village pussycat couldn’t possibly receive any more accolades, the company behind a major Ruddington property development has named its new £60m housing estate after him! Following Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s granting of planning permission 18/00300/OUT last week for Avant Homes (Midlands) to build 175 dwellings on the 15.89 acre site south off Musters Road, the Nottingham based developer has announced it will be called ‘Wilbur Chase’! This is, of course, in homage to ‘Wilbur – King of Ruddington’, our unwittingly world famous feline, who left his owner’s home…

Traders Warned of Fake £20 Notes

Village businesses are being alerted to another spate of attempts to spend counterfeit Scottish £20 notes in Ruddington. The warning’s gone out after “two lads” tried to make purchases today at village centre shops including The Co-Op, Sshokwave Bikes and Philo’s Espresso Bar & Eatery. This time around it’s relatively easy to spot they’re not genuine “Clydesdale Bank” notes (top) since there’s no metal strip embedded in them, the hologram is printed on the front and they’re blank at the back! It’s the second time in as many months that criminals…

‘The Rock Church’ Reaches Ruddington!

Worshippers in Ruddington will have another option from this Sunday as ‘The Rock Church’ begins holding monthly services in our village, claiming to be ‘…a twenty-first century church, with first century power!’ This Pentecostal church is pioneered by a husband and wife team, Pastors Alistair and Kate Kent, who founded it ten years ago in West Bridgford with no money and no premises. However, there were 20 people in the congregation who were ready to start to outwork their vision to build “an authentic, vibrant, charismatic church in Bridgford” that, within…

So Now We’re Set For 578 Green Belt Homes

Two more property developers have been left rubbing their hands with glee – after both their major Ruddington planning applications were waved through without any modification or further conditions at this week’s Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) Planning Meeting. Following many years of public consultations and residents’ protests about housebuilding on Ruddington’s Green Belt, last night (Thu 13th Feb) it took less than two hours for eleven Planning Committee members in West Bridgford to decide that Bloor Homes‘ 167 properties would fit just nicely along Wilford Road – and that access, appearance,…

Ruddington’s First ‘Fiver Fest’ Fortnight!

For the very first time this year Ruddington is joining in with ‘The Totally Locally Fiver Fest’. It’s a national celebration of small businesses and shops which runs for a fortnight from this Saturday, February 15th, through until the end of the month. Being part this UK-wide initiative was suggested to fellow traders by The Bottle Top‘s Alex Preston, who is now on the committee of the award-winning Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) team.  She quickly heard back from numerous independent retailers in the village who were keen to get…
