Motorists are unable to use Flawforth Lane in and out of Ruddington today following an incident just after midnight at the A52/A606 Wheatcroft Roundabout. Highways England said it was “due to an extensive diesel spillage. The A52 will need partly resurfacing.” The A52 was closed westbound between the A606 and the A60 for several hours overnight, but the agency reported it was partly reopened just before the morning rush hour today: “Lane 2 of two lanes is now flowing past the spillage and therefore the A52 is partly open.” However…

New Police Warning About Thefts from Vehicles
Although May was another relatively quiet month for crime in Ruddington, many of the incidents investigated by officers were again thefts from motor vehicles parked in residential areas of our village. These accounted for nearly half the offences reported. Police are reminding people not to leave valuables in unattended cars and vans, particularly overnight. Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police is also warning residents that shed and garage burglaries have started to increase across the area: “As the weather improves, and the nights become lighter, cycles, power tools and garden machinery have…
Read More174 Homes Proposed for Flood Prone Green Belt
A full planning application to build 174 new homes on agricultural land west of Wilford Road in Ruddington has now been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). The proposals will come as no surprise to most local residents, since the area (formerly known as RUD01 and now referred to as Policy 6.1) has long been targeted by Bloor Homes – with discussions taking place between the property developer, Oxalis Planning and Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) as far back as December 2014. Originally RPC proposed to sell off Sellors’ Playing Field to accommodate…

A Ruddington fitness centre has launched a special fundraiser to buy emergency, life-saving equipment for its premises. The staff at Compound Strength and Conditioning are aiming to raise £1000 to install a defibrillator at their gym, as there currently isn’t one located in the Brookside Road area of Ruddington. Jules Abbott explains: “Last year myself and my brother Max, who is my business partner and one of the other co-owners of Compound Strength and Conditioning, unexpectedly lost our dad Cyril due to a sudden heart attack. He had the heart attack in…

Ruddington’s annual Beer & Cider Festival makes a welcome return this week. “Ruddfest 2019” begins at midday on Thursday 30th May and runs from noon each day until Sunday 2nd June, with a full programme of events and activities taking place on The Green, at The White Horse Inn and at The Frame Breakers. The Victoria Tavern on Wilford Road will also be taking part by offering a wider selection of beers and ciders than usual – though there won’t be an outdoor bar this year. Even Ruddington’s new off-licence The Bottle Top will…
Read MoreNew Shopping Precinct Plans Revealed!
Ruddington could soon have a chic, new shopping area – right in our village centre – if exciting proposals for a ‘mews’ style development behind Church Street get the go ahead. Plans have been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council by Ruddington based Victoria Properties to turn the area to the rear of some of its existing village shops into a brand new retail space – comprising four additional shops, three flats and two office units. Access would be through a new archway alongside Philo’s Delicatessen on High Street. Two shops would…
Read MoreAnother Green Belt Consultation!
When the Rushcliffe Local Plan Part 1: Core Strategy was adopted back in December 2014 things didn’t look too bad for Ruddington. Identified infill sites for new homes here, along with some available “brownfield” areas, meant that our village would be required to accommodate just 250 further homes on its precious Green Belt. Over the following four and a half years, however, that outlook was set to change significantly. (You can read the details of this long running saga elsewhere on the RUDDINGTON.info website.) To summarise, a number of consultations…
Read MoreHistoric Footbridge To Be Closed For Repairs
One of Ruddington’s railway landmarks is set for a little TLC this week – to make sure it remains safe for the increasing number of pedestrians who now use it. ‘Fifty Steps Bridge’ over the Great Central Railway line was constructed well over a century ago (circa 1899) and still survives as a functioning footbridge to this day. This is despite the passenger line beneath it becoming a victim of Dr Richard Beeching’s cuts in 1963, and nearby Ruddington Station subsequently being demolished. Goods trains continued to pass along this…
Read MoreHave Your Say in Europe – and Ruddington!
Ruddingtonians are heading to the polls again this Thursday (23rd May 2019) for the second set of elections in just three weeks. This time around, of course, it’s to elect our representatives for the European Parliament – a vote that has had to be organised rather hastily within the last couple of months, after the UK failed to leave the European Union as planned. For the East Midlands region we have the chance to vote for one of eight different political parties – each fielding five candidates – or for…

Ruddington’s motorists are experiencing further hold-ups – because Cadent gas work on Wilford Road has returned! The company originally began tackling an unexpected problem on Dutton’s Hill before Easter. Emergency works started there to “…trace, then excavate to repair gas escape and reinstate where possible.” However, it appears the issue was not resolved, and the workers, their pneumatic drills and 24-hour two-way traffic lights are all back! Now, drivers through this part of our village are facing more peak time queues, and the single line traffic means all parking outside Sainsbury’s has again…
