New statistics just published by Nottinghamshire Police indicate the number of reported incidents of ‘antisocial behaviour’ in our village shot up by 132 per cent during the Coronavirus pandemic. Figures from the past twelve months of COVID-19 restrictions and ‘lockdowns’ show Ruddington’s increase was second only to the Ashfield District of Nottinghamshire – leading to alarmist stories in some local news media. However, thankfully for us, it seems this does not give an accurate picture. In fact, for the whole year, the number of reported cases rose from just 83…

Prolific Shoplifter Jailed
A 31-year-old man, who originally received a deferred sentence for a shoplifting spree in Ruddington and Clifton last September, is now behind bars after committing further offences over Christmas. Following his original sentence, Aaron Kelly (pictured above), of no fixed address, was re-arrested on December 29th and re-sentenced the next day at Nottingham Crown Court after being found responsible for numerous, further shop thefts. Altogether he committed 41 crimes including stealing gift sets, food and makeup – as well as smashing goods inside a shop. Mr Kelly must now spend six months in jail.…

Even though the current Tier 3 COVID-19 restrictions mean pubs in Ruddington and beyond remain closed, other than for takeaways, Rushcliffe Police warn they’re very much still on the lookout for motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Commenting on two such arrests in our area today, Neighbourhood Inspector Craig Berry says: “The Rushcliffe response team were carrying out enforcement work as part of the county-wide Christmas drink and drug driving campaign. As part of this, we have access to additional resources and we are committed to carrying through…
Read MoreCatalytic Converter Thefts in Ruddington
September’s Ruddington Crime statistics, just issued by Rushcliffe Police, show a spike in vehicle crime around our village. This includes two cars – one parked on Wilford Road and another on Church Street – which had their catalytic converters stolen. It seems thieves target these for the precious metals they contain – such as rhodium, palladium, and platinum – making newer vehicles the most vulnerable. Hybrid* cars are also attractive to criminals since the supplementary electric motor means their catalytic converters are likely to have been used less frequently to process…

Detectives investigating a report of two cars being stolen following a burglary in Ruddington have arrested a man as part of their enquiries. Officers were called to a property along Flawforth Lane on Monday 7th September after it was reported that car keys had been stolen in a house burglary and the cars then taken from the drive. Nottinghamshire Police has been working to establish the circumstances of the incident and are reporting that, earlier today, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Derbyshire on suspicion of burglary in connection with…

For many Ruddington children, the arrival of the summer school ‘holidays’ this year has been rather less of an occasion – with the majority not having attended classes since March 20th anyway, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. However, kids with too much time on their hands during hot weather – with home schooling on pause and with even less things to do than usual due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions – can lead to trouble. This has prompted an appeal from Rushcliffe’s Police Inspector Craig Berry to show consideration for others over…

Rushcliffe Police say Saturday’s easing of ‘lockdown’ restrictions – meaning Ruddington’s numerous pubs and other hospitality venues could reopen their premises – did not create any major issues for its officers. As we reported on ‘Super Saturday’ (July 4th), the new freedoms saw the centre of our village the busiest it’s been for many months (top photo) helped by the return of the Ruddington Village Market, on The Green. Most villagers and visitors seemed to be adhering to the required ‘social distancing’ guidelines. Julie Smith of the Black Cat Café tells us:…

A Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue crew from West Bridgford was called out at 1.39am today (Tuesday 7th April) to tackle the blaze – with local resident Wayne Swift capturing the moment they arrived (above) to find the sub-station engulfed in flames. Western Power Distribution (WPD) also attended the…
