New proposals to resolve access issues for residents in a Ruddington cul-de-sac, whilst still enabling some parking there for those who need it, have been put out for consultation. As RUDDINGTON.info reported in August, after numerous complaints about inconsiderate parking and damage to vehicles, there was a previous consultation by Via East Midlands (on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council) which proposed prohibiting all parking on Cumberland Close between 9am and 5pm every day. This caused dismay among some residents and businesses along Easthorpe Street who have no off-street parking of their own…

Residents and businesses in and around Cumberland Close will have to wait and see what’s decided by the authorities – now that their views on how to solve the local parking problem have been submitted. It follows long-standing frustration that inconsiderate parkers on both sides of this residential cul-de-sac, off Easthorpe Street, were frequently blocking residents’ driveways, obstructing pavements and narrowing the road to such an extent that wider vehicles servicing the properties could not get through. Motorists are facing peak time delays on one of Ruddington’s busiest routes up until this weekend. A burst water main today (28th August) on Kirk Lane means that 24-hour two-way temporary traffic signals have been put in place to control traffic whilst Severn Trent Water carries out repairs to the pipe beneath the road. Ruddington’s traffic problems are always a controversial subject. Long standing gripes such as continuing to allow parking on Dutton’s Hill were supplemented last year with outrage caused by the unexpected permission for 175 new houses off Asher Lane – possibly leading to traffic lights on High Street. Parking will be prohibited along at least one side of the road right around Ruddington’s Business Park if plans by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) get the go-ahead. Ruddingtonians awoke to another blanket of snow this morning – as the effects of the so-called “Beast from the East #2” were felt across the area. Early casualties were yesterday’s Ruddington Village FC fixture against Awsworth Villa FC at Elms Park and today’s Stroke Association ‘Resolution Run’ at Rushcliffe Country Park – both of which were postponed yesterday, anticipating the icy conditions.
