Village restaurant owner Mahbu Noor and his staff say they’re delighted at picking up a special national award for their work at The Three Spices on Easthorpe Street – after being nominated for it by their customers. The Ruddington eatery picked up the title ‘Best Customers’ Choice Restaurant’ in this year’s prestigious National Curry Awards – staged by Curry Life Magazine at a glittering event in London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel. The gong was presented to him by well known broadcasters Angela Rippon and Mike Bushell {top photo}. Speaking after the ceremony, Mr…

New Team at the Tearoom
One of Ruddington’s much-loved hospitality venues has reopened today under new management – and also with a more contemporary, new look. The Old Bakehouse Tearoom on Church Street had been closed since the start of July to allow for repairs and alterations to the interior by its new owner Eve Kirk. She took over the reigns from Lesley Wells during this summer due to Lesley’s retirement. Eve is pictured above (centre) with new staff members Jess (left) and Serena (right), who both live in Ruddington. Eve explains: “I worked in a cafe…

It’s been confirmed that the former Sainsbury’s Convenience Store on Dutton’s Hill – most famously the historic home of Grice’s Electricals for over a century before that – will be reopening as a SPAR franchise after all. All seemed set for this new arrival back in March – with the branded signage installed in readiness. However, after a long pause, RUDDINGTON.info heard in May from AF Blakemore & Son Retail – which oversees 275 SPAR convenience stores across England and Wales – that: “…the site in Ruddington will no longer be joining SPAR therefore will not…

It seems that plans to bring a SPAR Convenience Store to Dutton’s Hill in Ruddington have been abandoned at the eleventh hour. Agents for the Dutch retailer announced previously that a new franchise would open at 12-14 Wilford Road on March 3rd 2021 – swiftly filling the gap left by our Sainsbury’s Local, which had closed just a month before. Although that launch deadline was missed, the SPAR exterior signage went up a couple of weeks later – even including the store’s opening times and facilities – indicating that all was still on track…

With spring very much in the air, and plants starting to come back to life, a community project in our village, which began during the first Coronavirus lockdown, is now out of ‘hibernation’ for the growing season ahead. The idea of Edible Ruddington was mooted just a year ago by a group of green fingered residents who found themselves with plenty of time to spend out and about in our lovely village. One of them, Gwen Eyre, explains: “We saw first-hand how beneficial nature and watching plants grow can be for…

The question of what is to replace Ruddington’s former Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill was answered this week – when a new banner (pictured above) appeared outside. Dutch retailer SPAR is soon to move into 12-14 Wilford Road – having itself been replaced by a Sainsbury’s On The Go only last summer at our Loughborough Road filling station. So, effectively, the store chains will have swapped village shops – although the former Grice’s premises are slightly larger and therefore should allow for a more comprehensive range of stock. Ruddington’s new SPAR outlet…

With stocks of certain essential items still hard to find at Ruddington’s supermarkets due to the recent wave of Coronavirus induced panic buying, our local food bank is appealing for more donations at a time when the demand for it is growing. Although the Government has pledged financial help for those now unable to work during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, at least in the short term more people are having to turn to food banks – because they can no longer afford to feed their families or buy them…

Ruddington’s annual Beer & Cider Festival makes a welcome return this week. “Ruddfest 2019” begins at midday on Thursday 30th May and runs from noon each day until Sunday 2nd June, with a full programme of events and activities taking place on The Green, at The White Horse Inn and at The Frame Breakers. The Victoria Tavern on Wilford Road will also be taking part by offering a wider selection of beers and ciders than usual – though there won’t be an outdoor bar this year. Even Ruddington’s new off-licence The Bottle Top will…

On the eve of the inaugural Ruddington Village Market, it’s been announced that our village is to be the first in Rushcliffe to feature at the start of a special series of magazine articles – in a publication distributed to over 60,000 homes. The new Rushcliffe Reports feature is to be called ‘High Street Heroes’ and will start this April by focusing on the sterling efforts of Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) in attracting people to visit local businesses in and around our own High Street and helping them prosper. The group…
