Rushcliffe’s 3.2% Council Tax Rise

At a time when the Coronavirus pandemic means even more Ruddington families are struggling to make ends meet, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has announced it intends to increase its share of our Council Tax by 3.2% in the next financial year. This is despite the current UK inflation rate standing at just 0.6% and with most bank and building society interest rates for savers even lower than that. The hike proposed at the Cabinet Meeting last night (9th February 2021) would mean householders paying £147.36 for a typical ‘Band D’…

Ruddington Speaks on Nature Conservation

With protecting our natural environment increasingly at the forefront of many people’s minds, one agenda item at this Tuesday evening’s Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) Cabinet Meeting is attracting particular interest amongst villagers. The pledge states: “We are in a state of planetary emergency: the interdependent crises of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation and climate change”. The Chartered Institute for Ecology…

Dismay at Dangerous Drivers

Villagers are up in arms about the large number of motorists flouting a current four-day road closure in Ruddington. As we reported last week, Clifton Road was shut to through-traffic yesterday (Monday) to allow major resurfacing work which is needed to repair damage caused by a burst water main earlier this month. Despite the icy conditions, and the fact that the old road surface was removed yesterday, eyewitnesses say numerous drivers are simply disregarding the closure by mounting the kerb and either driving along the pavement or going up on…

Have Your Say on Planning Enforcement

Ruddington’s three Borough Councillors are encouraging us to have our say on a proposed ‘Code of Practice’ to give the authority more powers of enforcement over breaches in planning control. It’s been hard to turn a corner here recently without coming across some building work or other – whether taking place at the heart of our historic Conservation Area or on the outer fringes of the village. Four significant further housing development sites have been approved recently on former Green Belt land in Ruddington, with construction having started most recently along…

A Further Four Day Road Closure

Village residents are being warned there’s more disruption ahead for drivers when one of Ruddington’s busiest roads is closed again for major repairs. Earlier this month Clifton Road was shut to traffic for 24 hours after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a burst water main on a Sunday (January 10th 2021) but there was no one available to fill in the hole and patch the road until the next day. Now highways officials have decided the already well-worn stretch of road needs major attention, following this latest…

Goodbye Green Belt Number Three

As strict Government instructions to “stay home, save lives and protect the NHS” do not seem to apply to construction workers, there is to be no delay with earth moving machines starting a third, former Green Belt housing development in Ruddington. Within the last few days, residents along Brookside Road and Brookside Gardens with properties on the boundary of the fields west of Wilford Road have all received hand-posted letters from Paul Baker of C3 Construction. This is the company contracted by Bloor Homes to commence the work on its…
