Ruddington had some high profile Royal visitors this week – who managed to keep such a low profile that hardly anyone in the village even knew they’d been here! Local resident Maureen Wood sadly passed away on the 11th of August 2018, at the age of 80, following a struggle with ill health. Last Tuesday (28th August) Maureen’s Requiem Mass took place at The Catholic Church of The Holy Spirit in West Bridgford followed by her committal service at Wilford Hill Crematorium. However the reception for the mourners was then held at…

Back in April we reported how local traders in Ruddington began exploring innovative new ways they might work together to attract more residents and visitors to use our village centre. The Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) was formed after the sudden and unexpected closure of Thomas’s the greengrocers prompted an extraordinary meeting of Ruddington Parish Council – resulting in numerous business people and concerned residents coming together to volunteer their help in whatever ways they could. Councillor Ian Wilson, who’s co-ordinating the partnership, told us: “Over the past couple of months the group has…

With a pétanque piste proposed on The Green, that’s just ONE of the things they’ve been working on! Chair Gavin Walker writes: Committee members meet monthly and work hard with other organisations to ensure that the development priorities identified by the villagers of Ruddington stay on track as far as possible. Active links with the Parish and Borough Councils are important, as well…

Thousands of revellers are descending on Ruddington this weekend to take full advantage of the hundreds of beers, ciders, wines, spirits and entertainment which make up RuddFest 2018. All being well our pubs will be full – along with people thronging around the dedicated marquee and stalls on The Green. But for those less keen on the alcohol, or needing a break from the stronger stuff, Ruddington has plenty of other village centre venues you can stroll to for a nice, refreshing cup of tea or coffee. This now includes Jasper’s…

Police are investigating after a new restaurant & café-bar in Ruddington, which only began trading in March, was raided by thieves over the weekend. “Apotheka”, at 6 Wilford Road, was broken into early on Sunday morning, with a quantity of cash and drinks stolen. The venue is now run by Jack Robson – who originally worked for McArtney’s Catering before buying out the company in 2015 and then acquiring the former “Bar Six” business from John Noble and Lucy Would in November last year. Jack says the criminals struck at about a quarter past…
