Thousands Raised During ‘Open Gardens’ Event

Organisers of last weekend’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ have revealed it was another great success – securing well over £6,000 to split between their two chosen kids’ charities. For the fourth time, on Saturday & Sunday 1st & 2nd July 2024, people across our village allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Ruddington’s D-Day Beacon

This week, celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day are taking place nationwide and in other countries which were British allies during the Second World War. This Thursday evening, 6th June 2024, our village will also be joining in.  Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) is inviting all residents along to the War Memorial on Church Street for 8.50pm as the countdown to the synchronised national beacon lighting gets underway. Ruddington Community Choir will be on hand with some appropriate songs as the sun sets and dusk prevails. The organisers of a popular, village weekend – which takes place only every other year – say programmes for this summer’s event are now on sale. Ruddington Open Gardens 2024 is being held on Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd June from 2pm until 6pm. This time around, 13 private gardens around the village will open for viewing, plus the gardens at The Cottage Hotel and behind the Debbie Bryan Gallery on High Street. Methodist Church Closure Threat

The Minister of Ruddington Methodist Church has confirmed that the future of their historic, village centre building is in doubt due to the rising cost of maintaining it. Reverend Tony Simpson replaced Reverend Nichola Jones as our Methodist Minister in 2023 when she was rather unexpectedly moved to another circuit in Cornwall last July. He also looks after the Methodist Churches in Clifton, Bradmore, Keyworth, and Tollerton, so usually only takes services here in Ruddington around once a month. Bowls Club Centenary Celebrations

Another special milestone in our village history will be reached during 2024 – when Ruddington Bowls Club celebrates a hundred years. When it was founded in 1924, it was originally called ‘Ruddington (Paget) Bowls Club’, as the land it occupied had been donated by the Paget family. However, just ten years’ later, the club moved to the Green at Elms Park, on grounds owned by Ruddington Parish Council, where it remains to this very day.
