The Next Episode Begins…

Ruddington can once again boast a trendy drinking venue – now a new bar called The Next Episode has opened its doors in our village. But it’s rather MORE than a bar, since it’s been launched by The Ruddy Good Pub Company – alias Mark and Sarah Anderson from The Ruddington Arms. This is now the third outlet in their expanding hospitality empire – after they relaunched The White Lion at Bingham in 2017. After a “soft” launch with some invited guests the previous night, The Next Episode opened to everyone…

New Ruddington Shopping Precinct Approved!

Proposals for a chic, new shopping area in our village centre have been given the go-ahead by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) planners. The ‘mews’ style development behind Church Street in Ruddington has got the green light following the recent RBC consultation. This resulted in just one public objection – from a resident on Charles Street who was concerned about increased pressures on parking and it affecting neighbours’ privacy. The ambitious scheme by Ruddington based Victoria Properties will turn the area to the rear of some of its existing village shops into a brand new retail…

The Old Bakehouse Celebrates Seven Years

The Old Bakehouse Tearoom sits so comfortably on Church Street, and is now such an integral part of Ruddington life, to current residents and visitors it’s like it’s always been here! In reality, of course, the premises have undergone a couple of reincarnations since they were the former Horspools’ Bakery shop. However, Lesley Wells has made it all her own – and it’s seven years this week since she first started trading from there. It was early in 2012 that Lesley’s long time dream of running a traditional, Victorian-style tea room…

Tributes to Ruddington Golf Club Owner

The funeral is taking place this week of John Pownall – the man who has owned Ruddington Grange Golf Club for almost a quarter of a century. He died peacefully in hospital on the 2nd of May. He was 84. Our 6,515 yard Par 72 village golf course had only existed for eight years when John bought it from original owner Jack Johnson in 1996. He set about further developing it into what is now acknowledged as being one of the most challenging and best kept courses in Nottinghamshire. The…
