Ruddington Speaks on Nature Conservation

With protecting our natural environment increasingly at the forefront of many people’s minds, one agenda item at this Tuesday evening’s Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) Cabinet Meeting is attracting particular interest amongst villagers. On September 28th last year, Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed the ‘Leaders Pledge For Nature’ at the United Nations Summit on Biodiversity, along with 64 other countries, seeking to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. The pledge states: “We are in a state of planetary emergency: the interdependent crises of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation and climate change”. The Chartered Institute for Ecology…

January Record for Benwell Daykin

The UK property market enjoyed a mini boom in the second half of 2020. The question on everybody’s lips is: “Why is this, and will it continue in 2021?” The property market in England is fully open in its entirety, meaning that Benwell Daykin is allowed to conduct in-person valuations and house viewings, meaning buyers are able to move home despite the ‘lockdown’ measures currently in place. Since the middle of 2020, the UK property market has been on the rise which has seen transaction numbers rise significantly. Provisional data…

Amazing Reglazing at St Peter’s

A little bit of Ruddington’s history has now been reinstated thanks to some painstaking restoration work for our Parish Church. RUDDINGTON.info reported last summer how some of the stained glass windows at St Peter’s had been targeted by vandals – leading to the closure of the churchyard at night. Of those broken, perhaps the most upsetting of all was the beautiful St Bartholomew’s window – with the face of the 1st Century Apostle badly damaged during the mindless attacks. The good news is that most of the fragments of glass…

Goodbye Sainsbury’s

Ruddington village centre shoppers will have slightly less choice from this weekend when our Sainsbury’s Local closes its doors permanently – after just over a decade on Dutton’s Hill. RUDDINGTON.info first revealed this shock news back in October last year, when it transpired this shop had already been earmarked for closure over 12 months’ earlier – along with up to 40 other Sainsbury’s outlets across the UK. However, that was before the COVID-19 outbreak when it appeared villagers were actually making very good use of the Wilford Road convenience store during the…

Further Vandalism at Our Heritage Railway

Volunteers at Great Central Railway Nottingham (GCRN) now have some more unexpected and unwelcome work to do after trespassers at the Ruddington site decided to spray graffiti onto one of the 125 Group‘s recently restored MK3 coaches. The Heritage Centre is already facing great financial challenges thanks to the Coronavirus – having been unable to run any passenger services from there since the February half-term last year. Whilst not on the scale of the vandalism in 2019, it’s still very upsetting and disheartening for all those involved. This latest, mindless act was discovered…

Skating Into the Future

Construction work is now underway on a brand new ‘plaza’ style skatepark in Ruddington – which should be ready for use by this spring. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is building a replacement concrete facility at Rushcliffe Country Park which has been designed by Canvas (top image) in close collaboration with the young people from our village and elsewhere who will use it. It’s hoped the contemporary skatepark will meet the needs of future Olympic skateboarders and BMXers from Ruddington and the surrounding areas. As shown in Charlene Robinson’s photo below, workmen have now moved…
