The Property Market is Booming!

Following unprecedented times, the Nottinghamshire property market currently finds itself in somewhat of a boom says Benwell Daykin. Many predicted we would experience a dip in house prices with fewer sales and purchases following the Coronavirus lockdown. In fact, the opposite has happened! Demand for a new home is currently outstripping supply. Viewing numbers have increased on each available property and with more buyers brings more offers.  High competition means property prices are driven up, as buyers compete with each other to secure their dream home. Campaign to ‘Stop The Incinerator’

Now it seems there’s another burning issue getting people hot under the collar in Ruddington. It’s after an application was submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council last month to turn the soon-to-be-decommissioned Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station into a waste incineration plant. Environmental campaigners’ initial joy, that the coal fired power plant is now so little used by The National Grid that it’ll be shut down within five years, has since turned to dismay on learning what might replace it. The proposal by Uniper UK Limited is for the development of ‘The East Midlands…

Goodbye to Shane

Ruddington’s village butcher is going out on a ‘high’ this month – following a few years which have not always been easy for our cheery Church Street retailer. Please see the important update below.* After shop manager Shane Ginty took over the running of the business from original owner Stewart White in 2015, like many independent retailers he faced some very tough trading conditions. The gradual rise in villagers choosing to shop at the big supermarkets and online – coupled with some people cutting down on meat or giving it…

Man Left Elderly Parents Penniless After Stealing £114,000

A 58 year-old man has been sentenced today for stealing the life savings of his mum and dad. The elderly couple, both in their 80s, went into care in Ruddington in 2015. Three years later, the care home manager found a large balance was outstanding on their account and so began to look into it further. The debt was reported to the police, and financial investigators found that Steven Buckley, of Kenilworth Drive in Ilkeston, had used around £114,000 of the couples’ funds for his own financial gain. His parents had…

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…

Ruddington Soft Play Centre Will Not Reopen

It was on Guy Fawkes’ Night almost six years’ ago that an imaginative addition to Ruddington kids’ social scene first lit up children’s faces in our village. On November 5th 2014 a new soft play centre called ‘Dizzy Rascalz’ opened its doors on Brookside Road and became an instant hit with youngsters and their parents.
