Controversial Residents Only Parking Approved

Plans to make most of two Ruddington village centre streets ‘Parking By Permit Holders Only’ during daytime hours have been approved by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC). The contentious scheme for Charles Street and Parkyns Street, which RUDDINGTON.info originally reported on last October, was rubber-stamped today (7th March 2019) by NCC’s ‘Communities and Place Committee’ despite 34 objections – including from Ruddington Parish Council. The original idea came about following a growing number of complaints to the Council from shoppers and traders about the lack of daytime parking spaces in our village centre. Many cited the…

Another Asher Lane Consultation!

Ruddington residents who’ve previously commented or objected to the outline planning application for 175 new houses down Asher Lane have received an unexpected extra letter from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). Even though permission has already been granted for this Green Belt development following a controversial intervention by the Government Planning Inspectorate last May – landowner Space Foods Limited is now pushing for the access to be allowed via Musters Road rather than the (approved) Asher Lane one. You can read all the background to this latest appeal >>HERE<<. Even though it was…

Apotheka To Close

It’s been announced that Ruddington’s trendiest drinking venue is to cease trading this weekend. Apotheka on Dutton’s Hill will shut its doors for the final time on Saturday (9th March) despite only opening after a major refurbishment of the premises just over a year ago. Business owner Jack Robson reveals: “Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have made the bar untenable going forward and, as such, we have decided to vacate.”  But he’s told RUDDINGTON.info that it’s not closing due to a lack of trade: “We would like to thank every single…

More Temporary Traffic Lights This Week

Few weeks seem to pass by these days without at least one set of roadworks potentially causing delays to traffic in and around Ruddington – and there are THREE sets of work to be aware of from this Monday. Villagers down Asher Lane are likely to be disrupted by Severn Trent Water pipe renewal from Monday 4th to Thursday 7th March at its junction with Musters Road {see top image courtesy of roadworks.org}. This will require three-way, 24 hour temporary traffic lights – meaning Musters Road residents may wish to…

Marking Our Country Park’s Aviation History

A special plaque has been unveiled which acknowledges Ruddington’s role in providing a key airfield during World War One. The Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust plaque has been installed on ‘Fowemer Hill‘ in Rushcliffe Country Park, commemorating the area that was used as a take-off and landing strip during The Great War by No38 Squadron from December 1916 to August 1917. It was also then used after World War One by local aircraft owner and resident Harold Ashworth in the 1930s – who went on to join the Royal Air Force. Records…

Ruddington’s Own ‘Fame’ School

The rather understated purple doorway leading into Number 7, Charles Street, may not seem quite as salubrious as the famous ‘High School of Performing Arts’ in New York City did back in the ’80s. But Ruddington’s ‘Freedom Dance & Performance’ has always aimed big – and consequently has found perhaps rather more than its fair share of ‘Fame’ along the way!? Principal Stacey Green is a fully qualified I.S.T.D teacher with years of experience both as a performer and choreographer. She launched ‘Freedom’ in our village in 2002 with the motto “Training tomorrow’s stars…

Ruddington’s March Market

After around two thousand people flocked to the inaugural Ruddington Village Market at The White Horse Inn a month ago, organisers are keeping their fingers crossed that this Saturday’s follow-up will be just as popular. Last time, many visitors continued their “Ruddy Good Day Out” with a stroll down Church Street and High Street to visit our shops and cafés, too. This is exactly what the ‘market’ team from Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) had hoped would happen when they joined forces with Andy Hunt at the popular village pub to trial this initiative – aiming to…

Plans For Former Thomas’s Revealed!

Eagle-eyed shoppers on High Street may have spotted a notice that’s appeared in the window at Ruddington’s historic greengrocers’ premises – the sudden and unexpected closure of which caused such shock and dismay in our village almost a year ago. The blue sign at Glyn Thomas‘s old shop – bought and refurbished last year by the Patel family of Ruddington Post Office next door – reveals an application to Rushcliffe Borough Council “for the Grant of a new Premises Licence to include the provision of sale of alcohol for consumption…

Brace Yourself For More Delays and Disruption!

Drivers are being warned to expect major disruption for up to three days – as works take place in Ruddington village centre. Residents, business-people, commuters and visitors will all be affected – as road closures, temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions are introduced. Carriageway resurfacing by Via East Midlands is taking place on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council on Charles Street and Parkyns Street. This means both these roads will be closed, with no parking allowed, along their entire length (in red on the map below) between 7.00am and 5.00pm each day from Monday…
