Government Adds to Pothole Pot

It’s hoped Ruddington’s roads might benefit from a central Government boost to local maintenance funds to speed up much needed pothole repairs. Nottinghamshire County Council has announced it has been awarded £8.28million specifically for fixing road craters in Nottinghamshire as part of the Department for Transport’s £2.5billion ‘Pothole Fund’. This is in addition to an existing allocation of £22.57million for general highway maintenance across the county. This latest photo from the Teso Region of Eastern Uganda shows how a classroom building project is moving forward nicely despite the problems of COVID-19 both in the UK and equatorial Africa. The project to provide a High School for children in Aminit is supported by St Peter’s Church and represents the second secondary school that they have been involved in building in Uganda over the last 15 years. Every year shoppers at our village Co-op help to provide much needed cash for three local good causes via their ‘Local Community Fund’. During the last funding year, the Ruddington branch handed out a total of £11,458.25 to local projects in need via ‘The Big Co-op Payout’ – split between Ruddington District Girl Guiding, NG11 Foodbank and Together@Clifton. Ruddington Celebrations for Charity Grant

There are celebrations at St Peter’s Church this month after the Teso Development Trust charity (TDT), which has been supported by the Ruddington church for over 15 years, won a major grant from the UK government to expand its work in a deprived area of Uganda. Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. As we reported on Saturday, many in our village, including St Peter’s Junior School Headteacher Michael Bradley, were critical of the Government after a Commons bid to extend free school meal vouchers to holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs last week. A new government funded scheme which is aiming to help hospitality businesses attract trade back after COVID-19 closure is launched this week – and will run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday throughout August. Ruddington’s Co-op Supermarket has today presented cheques totalling over fifteen thousand pounds to the three beneficiaries of last year’s ‘Local Community Fund’. The grand local total for the 2018/2019 ‘Big Co-op Payout’ was £15,665.20 – comprising £5610.45 for Bloomin’ Dementia (top photo), plus £4827.65 for St. Peter’s Church and £5227.10 for Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (below). Clifton Road Footpath & Cycleway Construction Begins!

It’s been announced that the creation of Ruddington’s long awaited “safe” footway from Clifton Road via the Old Station Drive development directly into the Pasture Lane Estate will finally begin this Monday!
