Asher Lane To Be Shut for a Week!

In another frustrating turn of events for villagers and visitors, it’s been announced that a key access road at the southern end of Ruddington will need to be totally closed for a week this summer. As the construction of 175 new homes at the ‘Wilbur Chase’ housing development gathers pace, “carriageway improvement work” on behalf of Avant Homes will shut Asher Lane from its junction with Distillery Street to its junction with Musters Road from 7.30am on Monday 14th June through to 4.30pm on Friday 18th June. It’s believed this closure is for the widening…

House Builder Seeks Highway Improvements Delay

A property developer currently building 175 new houses on former Green Belt land in Ruddington is asking for “a change in time frame” for offsite highway improvements at two busy junctions. Avant Homes (Midlands) is seeking a “variation of planning Condition 9” 18/00300/OUT until the first 35 dwellings on its new 15.89 acre ‘Wilbur Chase’ development south of Musters Road have been occupied. To cope with the anticipated increase in traffic flow through Ruddington, the original approval was conditional upon financial contributions being made by Avant to the Local Highway Authority, both in lieu of…

Have Your Say on Planning Enforcement

Ruddington’s three Borough Councillors are encouraging us to have our say on a proposed ‘Code of Practice’ to give the authority more powers of enforcement over breaches in planning control. It’s been hard to turn a corner here recently without coming across some building work or other – whether taking place at the heart of our historic Conservation Area or on the outer fringes of the village. Four significant further housing development sites have been approved recently on former Green Belt land in Ruddington, with construction having started most recently along…

Goodbye Green Belt Number Three

As strict Government instructions to “stay home, save lives and protect the NHS” do not seem to apply to construction workers, there is to be no delay with earth moving machines starting a third, former Green Belt housing development in Ruddington. Within the last few days, residents along Brookside Road and Brookside Gardens with properties on the boundary of the fields west of Wilford Road have all received hand-posted letters from Paul Baker of C3 Construction. This is the company contracted by Bloor Homes to commence the work on its…

Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Ruddington’s New Lake View Properties

Angry residents along Musters Road are seeking reassurance from the builder of a major new, Ruddington housing estate that their own homes won’t be flooded during its construction. Although Avant Homes Midlands‘ excavations for its ‘Wilbur Chase’ development of 175 properties north of Asher Lane only began two months’ ago, those with back gardens bordering the site awoke this week to find much of the former Green Belt site underwater after overnight rain. With winter only just beginning, and further wet weather forecast, they contacted RUDDINGTON.info expressing alarm that this might…

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…

Asher Lane Angst as Developer Moves In

Even before any actual construction work has begun at Ruddington’s new ‘Wilbur Chase’ development, the housing company who’ll be building it is being accused of breaching Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s planning conditions. Outline approval for 175 homes was controversially granted on appeal at the former Green Belt site north of Asher Lane just two years’ ago – despite significant local opposition including an initial planning refusal by the Borough Council.  Following the Government Planning Inspector’s nod, Avant Homes then won the tender from landowner Space Foods Limited to carry out the work. Its detailed…
