A driver who was fleeing from police through Ruddington last summer, before being brought to an abrupt halt by an unexpected closed gate, has unwittingly been responsible for a much more attractive replacement! A police pursuit on June 14th 2019 resulted in the suspect’s vehicle crashing into the locked gateway from Churchill Drive into Manor Park – destroying one of the brick pillars and damaging the gate itself (below). As it is a private road, for which local residents pay a ‘frontage charge’ for the upkeep, it fell to the…

New Ruddington Car Park To Open Soon
Ruddington’s first ever multi-storey car park is taking shape – with construction of the eco-friendly, four floor facility along Mere Way now well underway. The new car park is being built for HR and payroll software and services firm MHR by regional construction firm Stepnell. Although it is for employee use only, plans to increase the workforce there to 700 people mean more parking space is now needed. The extension of no parking restrictions around Ruddington Fields Business Park last year by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) has only exacerbated this situation. Planning approval was…
Read MoreProminent Pole To Go – But Not For Long!
An ‘eyesore’ mobile telecommunications mast at one of Ruddington’s green gateways – which was only erected in October 2017 after being controversially approved by Rushcliffe planners – is already set to be replaced. It seems the fifty foot tall ‘mono-pole’ alongside Wilford Road bordering Ruddington Grange Golf Course is no longer fit for purpose – despite being less that two and a half years’ old. New work which is set to take place over the next fortnight will mean further traffic disruption along this route whilst the current mast is taken down and a new one…

Hot on the heels of planning approval being given to developers to build a major new retirement complex in Manor Park, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has also given the go-ahead for a major expansion of existing accommodation for elderly residents in Ruddington. Balmore Nursing Home has been granted permission for “two storey and single storey extensions to provide 24 additional bedrooms, an additional conservatory, further sitting room accommodation and additional car parking” on its four acre site at 245-247 Loughborough Road. “Demolition of ancillary buildings” is being allowed in order to…

As the first Ruddington roadworks of 2020 begin, motorists who use a single access village centre road to get to the cemetery or on to their premises are being warned of disruption this week. On Tuesday 7th January and Wednesday 8th January Vicarage Lane is scheduled to be closed along its entire length for “plane and patch works” by Nottinghamshire County Council. Via East Midlands informs us that essential access for vehicles will be maintained but that ‘no parking’ restrictions will be put into place. Drivers should also be aware that this…

Proposals submitted over the summer, for a substantial new retirement complex at the heart of Ruddington’s Conservation Area in Manor Park, have been approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council planners. Churchill Retirement Living can now go ahead with its development of 43 apartments for older people, plus a guest apartment and communal facilities along with car parking and landscaping. 29 of these sheltered apartments will be single bedroomed, whilst 14 will have two bedrooms. The application replaced previously approved plans for a 40 unit retirement complex on the same site which had lapsed. This new complex…

A small but state-of-the-art new property development in Ruddington will again be the cause of some good old-fashioned roadworks this week – as the site gets reconnected to the mains gas supply! The crumbling, former Bostock’s DIY shop at 70, Wilford Road, which closed in 2015, was bought by Ruddington’s Mascari Design Solutions Ltd and demolished two years’ ago to make way for two contemporary homes on the land – to be called ‘Fork Handles’ and ‘The Yard’ in tribute to their heritage. Since then a rather lengthy spell of construction work has been taking place –…

Following the granting of planning permission in July work started at the weekend on the site of the former Thomas Greengrocers’ storage building to create a chic shopping area for Ruddington. The ‘mews’ style development off High Street by Victoria Properties will turn the land to the rear of some of its existing Church Street shops into a brand new retail space – comprising four additional shops, three flats and two office units. Access will be through a new archway alongside Philo’s Delicatessen on High Street. Two shops will fill the space between the…

Read MoreFirst Ruddington Green Belt Housing Approved
Linden Homes has become the first property developer to be granted full planning permission to build a new housing estate on Ruddington’s Green Belt by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) – as part of its recently approved Local Plan Part 2. This is despite the number of homes in the application being 12% more than were allocated by The Plan and local protests that the increased number of dwellings would mean the removal of dozens of mature trees on the Flawforth Lane site which border existing properties on Flawforth Avenue. At last night’s…
