Work For New Shopping Mall Begins

Following the granting of planning permission in July work started at the weekend on the site of the former Thomas Greengrocers’ storage building to create a chic shopping area for Ruddington. The ‘mews’ style development off High Street by Victoria Properties will turn the land to the rear of some of its existing Church Street shops into a brand new retail space – comprising four additional shops, three flats and two office units. Barclay & Cook to Close

Villagers are reacting with surprise and sadness to learn that our last, independent, convenience store – a landmark in Ruddington for over forty years – is closing its doors for the final time this weekend. Barclay & Cook, at 7-9 High Street, started trading on 3rd October 1977 when Howard Cox sold his then mainly “provisions” shop (including bacon, cheeses, cooked meats and loose biscuits all sold by weight) to new business partners John Barclay and David Cook.
