Television viewing and internet browsing were brought to an abrupt halt in one area of Ruddington last night as around 124 homes lost power. One householder reported flames shooting from a manhole on the roadside – before emergency services and an electricity van arrived at the scene. David Brown, who shared the above photo on social media at around half past eleven, reported: “Two fire engines, about nine police officers and a Western Power engineer turned up. All power out.…

COVID-19 Crime Figures
During the first full month of Ruddington’s ‘lockdown’ due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, officers have revealed a slight increase in the level of crime around our village – despite many people being at home throughout April. Statistics published by Rushcliffe Police show the number of reported incidents in Ruddington rose from eleven in March 2020 to thirteen incidents last month – primarily burglaries and vehicle crime. In terms of policing the pandemic, Inspector Craig Berry says: “Our role, as it has been since the restrictions were put into place, is to engage…
Read MorePlease Don’t Burn It!
Rushcliffe Borough Council is urging residents not to burn garden waste or other materials during the current lockdown, but to store it safely at home instead. As most Ruddington households follow Government guidance to stay at home whenever possible during the Coronavirus outbreak, it’s expected villagers will continue to spend more time out in the garden – especially during the recent, warmer weather. However, the authority is keen to highlight the effects of bonfires on those with breathing conditions. It follows a similar plea just before the Easter weekend, from Ruddington…

There is no doubt these are challenging times for policing Ruddington’s streets – in unprecedented circumstances – because of the UK Government’s Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ which began three weeks’ ago. Officers have to decide what is reasonable and unreasonable behaviour with regard to villagers heading out ONLY for brief daily exercise, travel to their work, essential shopping or medical needs – whilst also enforcing the two metre ‘social distancing’ rule if necessary. Persuasion rather than issuing fines has been the general approach so far. Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police (pictured top),…

Earlier this month Rushcliffe Borough Council launched an invitation for residents to join Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in their area “to help reduce crime and promote safe, informed communities”. This led RUDDINGTON.info to discover that, out of all the Neighbourhood Watch groups dotted around our village, only ONE of them remains active! That’s the scheme covering the Ashworth Avenue, Packman Drive and Ling Crescent area which was initiated by local teacher and photographer Peter McConnochie: “I live in Packman Drive and decided to set up a local Neighbourhood Watch group several years ago…

Village businesses are being alerted to another spate of attempts to spend counterfeit Scottish £20 notes in Ruddington. The warning’s gone out after “two lads” tried to make purchases today at village centre shops including The Co-Op, Sshokwave Bikes and Philo’s Espresso Bar & Eatery. This time around it’s relatively easy to spot they’re not genuine “Clydesdale Bank” notes (top) since there’s no metal strip embedded in them, the hologram is printed on the front and they’re blank at the back! It’s the second time in as many months that criminals…
