Ruddington has entertained two young teams from A.G. Grenay, the football club from our French Twin town, Grenay, in north eastern France. From Thursday 10th May to Sunday 13th May our village hosted a total of 33 people including the Mayor of Grenay and his wife, 21 children aged from 12 to 15 years and a collection of football coaches and parents. Ruddington Parish Councillor Paul Reedman writes: “Their stay proved to be a very busy affair with trips to both Notts County FC, where the children were thrilled to meet…

“Le Jumelage”
Football will be the focus of this week’s visit by another young group from our “twin town” of Grenay. Although the “Twinning” activities (“Le Jumelage” in French) lapsed for several years, there’s recently been a drive to re-establish links and arrange new exchange trips between Ruddington and Grenay – which lies in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. Although a town, its last recorded population of 6,899 in 2013 is actually slightly less than ours. The visitors will be here for four days from this Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th May, when…

Businesses in Ruddington have begun exploring innovative new ways they might work together in order to attract more residents and visitors to use our village centre. On April 12th an extraordinary Ruddington Parish Council meeting was called in the wake of worries about the closure of Thomas’s Greengrocers – the latest of several long established independent traders here who’ve gone out of business or decided to shut up shop. Now a form of “Village Centre Partnership” is being proposed after dozens of concerned locals put their names forward offering to help.…

Read MoreMindfulness Reaches Ruddington
You’ve probably heard of ‘mindfulness’ but may not know exactly what it is, nor what it can do? Ruddington resident Jakki Pritchard is hoping to change that by running new courses within our village – so locals have easy access to what she describes as “an enlightening and life enhancing way to manage our own health and wellbeing”. Jakki explains: “Mindfulness means paying attention to what is happening right now in this moment – a non-judgemental awareness of our present experience just as it is. Although on trend, it is scientifically proven to…

You may remember that something of a milestone was reached last summer with the publication of the definitive Ruddington Village Plan – your vision for how our village should develop over the next 5 to 10 years. This final version of the Plan was launched in August at the 2017 Ruddington “Summer Fayre” by RVP steering group volunteers (top photo) when villagers could pick up a printed copy of the completed document, ask questions and volunteer themselves for projects flagged up by four years of research. (You can read more about the background >>HERE<<.) The final plan itself contained…

…that’s the aim of Ruddington’s multi-award winning Framework Knitters’ Museum – which has just reopened for its 2018 season. This nationally renowned heritage site is a true gem for us to have at the heart of our village. But the success of the popular and historic tourist attraction does rely very heavily on volunteers – and this is where they’re hoping villagers with a little spare time on their hands may come forward to help. They’re currently asking for potential recruits to get in touch – with a chance to make…

Following the success of the inaugural event in the summer of 2016, it’s been revealed there’s to be a second “Ruddington Open Gardens” event in June this year – which organisers hope will be even bigger and better. The date for the 2018 event is to be the weekend of 23rd/24th June, and all proceeds will again be shared between the charities Save the Children and Action for Children. Organiser Jane Piggott says: “If any Ruddington residents would like to open their gardens this time, please contact me as soon as…
