“Le Jumelage”

Football will be the focus of this week’s visit by another young group from our “twin town” of Grenay.

Although the “Twinning” activities (“Le Jumelage” in French) lapsed for several years, there’s recently been a drive to re-establish links and arrange new exchange trips between Ruddington and Grenay – which lies in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. Although a town, its last recorded population of 6,899 in 2013 is actually slightly less than ours.

The visitors will be here for four days from this Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th May, when activities will include trips to Notts County FC, Trent Bridge Cricket Club and Ruddington’s own Transport Heritage Centre (pictured right). But another highlight will be on Saturday morning when two young soccer sides will be competing against Ruddington Colts at Jubilee Playing Fields.

Organiser Jill Reedman says: “Please help us to make our visitors feel really welcome in Ruddington, particularly by coming to watch the football and cheering on the players!”

If you’d like to help out, our Parish Council would love to hear from you – especially if you can speak French and are good at washing up!
