Ruddington Blackout Explained

Ruddington’s electricity supplier has revealed the cause of a power cut which hit around half the homes in our village last night (18th October). Families enjoying Sunday night television were plunged into darkness at 8.05pm. After carrying out an investigation today, Western Power Distribution (WPD) reports that a fault on one its high voltage underground cables was to blame for a total of 1,974 properties initially being blacked out. For the majority of residents the outage was only for a couple of minutes – although many properties then had a second,…

Ruddington Resurfacing To Resume

Residents and businesses along Camelot Street, Woodhouse Gardens, Marl Close and the Brookside Road estate can breathe a sigh of relief at the news their sole access road will only be left ‘in limbo’ for a couple of weeks – after resurfacing work was suddenly and rather dramatically suspended last Saturday. Just hours into the long awaited scheme on Camelot Street, all road workers were pulled off the site “until further notice” with Shaun Faulkner of contractors Tarmac Highway Services, blaming a “lack of cooperation and abusive comments from the residents on…

Why is Ruddington so Popular for Home Buyers Right Now?

Benwell Daykin reported last month that the property market is currently going through somewhat of a boom. Since then, many national news outlets have also reported some of the biggest property price growth seen in over five years. At our estate agency, demand for Ruddington property has always been high. However, we are seeing a huge increase in enquiries for property in the village and the surrounding areas. But why is this? The freeze on stamp duty is certainly playing its part, with more and more families taking the opportunity…

Work Begins for New Housing Opposite Mere Way

The building of the second of Ruddington’s major new housing estates on former Green Belt land moves a step closer this week as around six months’ work begins to create the access. This current agricultural land, off the A60 Loughborough Road, is one of four village green field development areas rubber-stamped by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan Part 2 (originally known as RUD13 and then as Policy 6.3) for which William Davis Homes then received approval to build 180 new houses around a year ago. Since then, construction work has already begun for the…

Ruddington Resurfacing Suspended After Workers ‘Abused’

Just hours after the long awaited resurfacing work began on Camelot Street this morning, contractors called a halt and went home – citing dangerous behaviour and abuse from some motorists. This bizarre turn of events follows the widely welcomed decision by Nottinghamshire County Council in July to finally proceed with a complete overhaul of the badly potholed stretch of road which had been put on hold until after the building of the Lace Gardens development was complete. As we’ve previously reported, preparatory work began at the start of September. Shortly afterwards,…

More Double-Yellows For Ruddington?

Residents along Asher Lane without off-street parking will soon have fewer options for their vehicles if plans for new ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions go ahead. In fact, the proposals to put double-yellow lines along much of the narrow road, and also at its junctions with Distillery Street, Top Road and Musters Road, will come as no surprise to those who’ve battled long and hard against the new 175 home development there. That’s because they are to formally fulfil one of the planning conditions for the controversial Green Belt…
