Rushcliffe Borough Council is urging residents not to burn garden waste or other materials during the current lockdown, but to store it safely at home instead. As most Ruddington households follow Government guidance to stay at home whenever possible during the Coronavirus outbreak, it’s expected villagers will continue to spend more time out in the garden – especially during the recent, warmer weather. However, the authority is keen to highlight the effects of bonfires on those with breathing conditions. It follows a similar plea just before the Easter weekend, from Ruddington…

Local Policing During COVID-19
There is no doubt these are challenging times for policing Ruddington’s streets – in unprecedented circumstances – because of the UK Government’s Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ which began three weeks’ ago. Officers have to decide what is reasonable and unreasonable behaviour with regard to villagers heading out ONLY for brief daily exercise, travel to their work, essential shopping or medical needs – whilst also enforcing the two metre ‘social distancing’ rule if necessary. Persuasion rather than issuing fines has been the general approach so far. Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police (pictured top),…

It was around a month ago, before the Government lockdown began, that people in Ruddington began to realise the sort of stringent measures which would be needed to slow the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in order to protect especially those in our village most at risk. As previously reported, Rushcliffe Borough Councillor Jen Walker took swift action after the March Councillors’ Surgery and – joined by members of Ruddington Village Centre Partnership, St Peter’s Church, Ruddington Mums and Alex Preston from The Bottle Top – within days set up a volunteer group and launched the Ruddington…

Whilst we can visit Rushcliffe Country Park and other village open spaces for our permitted daily walk, run or cycle, we must observe ‘social distancing’ of at least two metres from others whilst doing so. Picnics are not permitted. Also please remember that play areas and other Ruddington outdoor exercise equipment…

If you’re missing your regular journeys on Ruddington’s Navy 3 or Green 10 buses during the COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown, Nottingham City Transport’s “Buster” is inviting you to write a bus related tale or poem for possible inclusion in a brand new book. The short story writing competition is open to children and adults in five age categories. So how about composing one inspired by a #RuddyGoodDayOut? In the past couple of weeks, rainbows have been appearing in house windows all around Ruddington as ‘a sign of hope’ for patients and staff in hospitals across the country. During the Coronavirus pandemic they’ve also become a powerful symbol for people wanting to show solidarity with – and support for – the many valued NHS workers on the front line. Residents at one house along Brookside Road have even painted a giant rainbow on their garage door (above) to make sure it couldn’t be missed! If you’ve children at home…

Helen Brownett, who’s the Textile Artist & Technical Demonstrator at Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum, has designed her own version of a COVID-19 virus – and knitted it in 3D on one of the museum’s antique, circular knitting machines! Helen put the finishing touches to the blue Coronavirus by hand, adding pompoms on stalks to make her creation instantly recognisable. Explaining her motivation to design and knit a Coronavirus, Helen (pictured above on a Griswold machine) says: “I’ve always had an interest in knitting unusual things. Past projects have included the…

There were dramatic scenes in Ruddington during the early hours of this morning when an electricity sub-station on Old Station Drive caught fire – initially cutting power to 1,961 houses in our village. Flames were visible leaping high into the night sky. A Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue crew from West Bridgford was called out at 1.39am today (Tuesday 7th April) to tackle the blaze – with local resident Wayne Swift capturing the moment they arrived (above) to find the sub-station engulfed in flames. Western Power Distribution (WPD) also attended the…

A popular, Ruddington running event which attracts hundreds of participants each year is still taking place – but has gone online! So, rather than the usual crowds packed into Rushcliffe Country Park today, like many other things at the moment it will instead be a ‘remote’ experience. The 2020 Rushcliffe 10k & Running Festival had already been postponed from March 1st due to a waterlogged course. It was then rescheduled for Sunday, April 5th – until the COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown scuppered the new date, too. Rather than cancel it altogether, event…
