60th Anniversary of Closure ‘Open Day’

To mark sixty years since the loss of a full passenger service on the Great Central Railway Main Line, the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre on Mere Way is hosting an exhibition of the railway’s history. They’re combining this with a chance to explore Rushcliffe Halt and Hotchley Hill signalbox. Since ‘big trains’ have not restarted yet, instead there’s a FREE heritage bus service from Ruddington linking the two sites. More details can be found on the event poster below: Organisers say: “We hope to see you there!”

Easter in Ruddington – Exercise, Shopping & Services

As the unprecedented lockdown continues across the UK, to try to halt the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus, this year’s Easter activities and celebrations in Ruddington will be mainly confined to people’s homes plus short trips out for exercise or essential shopping. Whilst we can visit Rushcliffe Country Park and other village open spaces for our permitted daily walk, run or cycle, we must observe ‘social distancing’ of at least two metres from others whilst doing so. Picnics are not permitted. Also please remember that play areas and other Ruddington outdoor exercise equipment…

Thomas’s Shock Closure

Village shoppers are reeling from the news that their much loved independent greengrocer’s is to cease trading at the end of today. The shock closure brings to an end over 60 years in Ruddington for the popular retailer – at No.2 High Street – which was opened by J.R. (“Wilf”) Thomas back in the 1950s. It appears the family company has gone into liquidation without being able to give any prior warning to its staff. Workers only learned they were to lose their jobs when they turned up for their…

Co-op Cash Funding for our Framework Knitters

Whilst Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum remains closed for the usual January break it’s worth remembering that you can still support them just by shopping at the Co-op! Our nationally acclaimed museum was chosen for Co-op Local Community Funding last year. This has already raised over £650 which will go towards their Key Stage One educational programme for school children. That funding has now been extended until April 30th 2017, so there’s still plenty of time to raise money by purchasing Co-op own-brand products and services. However, please remember you have to select them first!  Anyone within 15 miles of Ruddington…

Fayre Grand!

Ruddington’s 2016 Christmas Fayre held on Saturday the 3rd of December has been hailed another success by most of the visitors and village businesses involved. Organised by Ruddington Parish Council, it involved the closure of High Street throughout the day to accommodate numerous undercover street stalls in two large marquees, food and drink sellers, Keyworth & Ruddington Rotary‘s Father Christmas in his sleigh and even an MC! Many village centre traders opened for longer hours than usual to join in with the festive fun.  There was a Nativity Tent and additional stalls at…

New Co-op Cashpoint

Ruddington will soon have a new 24 hour cashpoint on Church Street. For a short period, after the closure of HSBC’s branch in 2010 then Barclay’s in 2015, Ruddington was left without a single round-the-clock ATM in the village centre.  Instead locals and visitors had to rely on cash-back, machines located inside Sainsbury’s or the Co-op during opening hours, or head to Loughborough Road filling station. Earlier in 2016 Ruddington Post Office came to the rescue with a new hole-in-the-wall on High Street (click HERE for more). And now planning permission has been granted for another…
