Travellers Evicted – Again – Finally!

First of all, it was due to be at 8 o’clock this morning (Monday 13th August) – a time which quickly slipped to 3pm due to enforcement availability issues. Then, when Bailiffs arrived at Sellors’ Playing Field for the planned eviction this afternoon, they were informed that some of the men (and hence their vehicles to tow the caravans off with) were working in Peterborough! Almost another six mickey-taking hours later, with Police, Bailiffs and Council officials all having been left hanging in limbo to see them off the site and…

The Travellers Return!

Local residents and park users could only look on in disbelief this lunchtime as the welcome return of the rain coincided with some probably less welcome members of the travelling community casually letting themselves back onto Sellors’ Playing Field and setting up camp again. It’s just one month since a group of travellers – which adjacent householders told us they thought were mostly the same people as this time – were evicted from the same site after breaking into the Ruddington recreation ground at the start of July. On that…

‘Walking Bus’ Proposed for Ruddington

A fun, healthy, safe and environmentally friendly way for children to get to our village schools is being suggested for pupils in Ruddington. A “Walking Bus” is a form of student transport for school kids who, chaperoned by adults, walk to school along a set route, in much the same way a school bus might drive them there. Like a traditional bus, walking buses have a fixed route with designated “bus stops” and “pick up times” at which they collect the youngsters. A survey has been launched in collaboration with NHS…

Multi-Storey Car Park for Ruddington?

Last August we reported how a Ruddington based software company had announced its latest expansion would lead to the creation of around 400 more jobs here – a number which was then raised to 500 posts this spring. Payroll giant MHR has its UK site at Ruddington Fields Business Park – in ‘Britannia House’ (currently being refurbished) and the newly built ‘Wellington House’. The company, established in 1984, develops software already used in processing payments to around 10 percent of the UK’s workforce. MHR has previously received planning permission from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC)…

More Mindfulness for Ruddington

A Ruddington resident has announced she’ll soon be hosting a third ‘mindfulness’ course in our village – after the first two proved to be so popular. Jakki Pritchard started running her ‘Exercise Mindfulness’ sessions here last year to give locals easy access to what she describes as “an enlightening and life enhancing way to manage our own health and wellbeing”. Jakki explains: “Mindfulness means paying attention to what is happening right now in this moment – a non-judgemental awareness of our present experience just as it is. Although on trend, it is…

Woman Hospitalised by Snake Bite in Country Park

Visitors to Ruddington’s Country Park are being warned to take extra care after reports that a woman was bitten by an adder. The alarm was raised by a Facebook post from Linda Shearman on Thursday which says: “At the beginning of this week a friend of mine got bitten by a snake on Rushcliffe Country Park in Nottingham. She ended up in intensive care, but is now recovering at home. The hospital administered anti-venom, and confirmed it was an adder bite. She has informed the park warden and asked me to share…

Ruddington Garage IS Still Open!

Further to the recent closure of the hair salon and car dealership located at the Ruddington Garage premises on Easthorpe Street, rumours have been flying around the village that the garage itself has closed down. We’re pleased to report that this isn’t the case – the third party businesses who rented the salon and forecourt areas have simply moved or ceased trading. “We’re still here and open for business!” says Jason Dickman {pictured} whose father Brian has owned the premises for 35 years. “There’s no truth in the rumours going round…
