The Framework Knitters’ Museum has announced it’s hosting Ruddington’s first ever “Victorian Steampunk” event this autumn. You can even travel to the event in style on a vintage bus from the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) on Mere Way, thanks to the Nottingham Area Bus Society. Can You Spare Some Coppers for Coppers?

A Ruddington dog lover has launched an online fundraising appeal for her pet’s favourite exercise spot – after poor weekend weather put people off attending a special event there aimed at raising more cash to maintain and improve it. Rain fell on Sunday (26th August) as the 3rd Anniversary “Fun Dog Show” was taking place in and around Coppers Dog Activity Trail at Rushcliffe Country Park – keeping many pooches and their owners away. The woodland trail, designed exclusively for canines, was created and built with over one thousand volunteer hours and opened…

Respect Our Country Park!

Visitors to Ruddington’s Country Park are being urged to show respect to other users, and clean up after themselves, after pictures emerged on social media yesterday (Tuesday 21st August) of a large amount of discarded litter left strewn dangerously in and around the children’s play area. Chris Greaves, who was at Rushcliffe Country Park and took the photographs, said it was in the wake of some kind of group celebration – where no effort was made to tidy up after themselves. He posted: “They completely trashed the area to the…

Drivers Warned to Expect Delays

Ruddington’s motorists should brace themselves for more queues exiting and entering our village – as multi-way traffic signals are put into use at one of our busiest junctions tomorrow (Monday 20th August). Renewal of the road linings at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane crossroads is being carried out by Nottinghamshire County Council. The good news is that the work is expected to last only for one day – so the disruption caused by the temporary traffic lights should be short lived. The fact that it’s also the summer school holidays…

A village cabbie has come up with a shockingly good idea to help save lives – he’s installed a defibrillator in his taxi! Ruddington’s Richard Le Blond, who has driven for Southside Cars for the last eight years, had the device fitted to his vehicle on Monday. He paid for it himself and believes he is the first private hire driver in this area to carry one. Richard told us: “I’m aware that in Clifton and surrounds there are a large number of ageing people that could be vulnerable and…

Ruddington’s Big Knitted Scarf!

Given Ruddington’s famous framework knitting heritage, what better way to showcase our village to the world than by displaying a giant knitted scarf created by its residents on a circular sock knitting machine dating from 1860? At least, that’s what Framework Knitters’ Museum assistant Helen Brownett thought when she came up with the idea! Helen says: “I do make quite a few scarves for the different events we have around the museum, to string up across the buildings and in the workshops. So ‘a scarf along the street’ came into…
