Ruddington Rainbows’ Olivia Challenge

Parents will have an extra way to keep their children amused whilst shopping in Ruddington over the Autumn Half Term holidays – spotting dozens of “Olivias” displayed at our village retailers! The decorated cardboard dolls are being created by around 25 Girl Guides, aged 5 to 7, who are all members of our two Ruddington “Rainbows” Groups. Grab a Tree for Free!

Ruddington residents and groups can make their properties and communities even greener by applying for FREE trees for a third year running. It’s part of a continuing strategy by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) to provide ‘sustainable environments’ – as villagers brace ourselves for significant housing growth in the next decade. Over 5,700 trees have already been distributed by the authority since the start of its campaign in 2018. This time around, crab apple and hazel trees are available without charge. Parents Protest Against Proposed School Redundancies

Dozens of parents and pupils gathered outside James Peacock Infant and Primary School in Ruddington this morning to protest at plans to make ‘a significant number’ of Teaching Assistants (TAs) there redundant. On 1st June 2018, trustees and volunteers for Ruddington based charity The Mustard Seed Project (Uganda) waved goodbye to a 40 foot container which was crammed full of items that were sourced and donated to send to Uganda. Several ‘Mustard Seed’ supporters are busy getting physical this summer to raise money to send a shipping container full of school equipment and other items to Teso, Uganda. ‘The Mustard Seed Project’ is a Ruddington fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson – inspired by a visit to Uganda in the Summer of last year. Next month Ruddington’s James Peacock School marks its 50th anniversary of moving to its current location in Manor Park. The new buildings replaced the original “free school” built in 1875 on the corner of Asher Lane and The Green (now Adlard Print) that had become too small for our growing village. To celebrate its half century the school is holding a “Community Celebration Day” on Saturday the 30th of September between 1pm and 5pm.
