Joe and Pudsey’s Ruddington Visit

The organisers of Ruddington’s Junior Parkrun have released final details about the two very special visitors coming to our Country Park this weekend. As previously reported, Pudsey Bear and celebrity body-coach Joe Wicks will be taking part in Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun this Sunday, 13th November 2022, as part of BBC Children in Need‘s annual fundraising. However, it’s worth noting some significant changes to Ruddington’s usual weekly event for 4 to 14 year-olds. In fact, Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun will be officially cancelled on the day – to make way for ‘Walk with Joe’. This means there…

A Plethora of New Village Businesses

Whilst many high streets up and down the country continue to struggle in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and people’s changing shopping habits, it seems Ruddington is coping better than many. Although there have been shop closures here, generally our retail units in the village centre don’t stay empty for long. Currently there are plenty of new arrivals. In fact the opening of ‘The Courtyard’ two years ago – an attractive new shopping precinct where mainly derelict old buildings used to be – plus the redevelopment of the former Barclay & Cook site…

Rachel Lesesne, one of the three run leaders, explains: “Our last official beginners group graduated in March 2020 {pictured top}, just a…

‘Community Sundays’ in Ruddington

Residents are invited to get involved with a wide variety of activities organised in and around our village on the first Sunday of each month. They’re an initiative which was started by Ruddington Baptist Church last year. Rachel Third from their Leadership Team tells us: “Community Sundays began from a desire to reconnect and build new relationships in the village after COVID-19. We wanted to go beyond our pre-COVID pattern of just meeting inside the building on a Sunday and instead get out and about in the community, hopefully doing…

Ruddington Books Are Out Of This World!

It’s been revealed that two girls and their parents from our village are the main stars of a new series of adventure books by children’s author Ed Goodwin – the second of which has just been published. Ed says it all started early in 2020 when the first COVID-19 lockdown meant he wasn’t able to see his Ruddington grandchildren, Suzy and Connie, in person. “We had Zoom calls but these were usually chaotic, an example being showing how good they were at jumping off sofas followed by them becoming bored and…

Park Kiosk Raid Reported in August Crime Stats

Ruddington crime figures for last month just revealed by Rushcliffe Police show a spike in thefts, burglaries and items stolen from motor vehicles in our village – though without any criminal damage recorded this time around. As previously reported, the summer ‘crime wave’ prompted local officers to increase patrols in Ruddington. However, the August figures from our local officers do not include the subsequent assault on a 28 year-old man in Easthorpe Street on August 21st, which left the victim seriously ill in hospital with life threatening head injuries. A 34-year-old…
